Hudkins Advances to Semi-Finals at Midlands Championships

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Brock Hudkins highlighted the first day of the Midlands Championships for Indiana wrestling as he won three matched to earn a spot in the semi-finals.
Hudkins (125 lb) outscored his three opponents by a 20-2 margin. In the night session he beat Michael Colaiocco of Penn in the quarterfinals. Hudkins will battle No. 2 seed Pat Glory of Princeton in the semifinal.
Jacob Covaciu and Donell Washington will continue in the morning session tomorrow as well in the consolation of 8 round.
Indiana had four wrestlers advance to the Round of 16 during the opening session. The first session got off to a strong start for the Hoosiers when Graham Rooks (149 lb) won a 5-4 decision over No. 8 Yahya Thomas of Northwestern. Rooks advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-2 decision over Zack Zeamer of Oklahoma.
Brock Hudkins (125 lb) earned a first-round bye as the No. 3 seed and blanked both of his first two opponents. He won a 7-0 decision over Vince Perez of Central Michigan and an 8-0 major decision over Antonio Lorenzo of Cal Poly.
Indiana had two wrestlers advance to the round of 16 at the 174-pound weight class. Donnell Washington earned his spot with a pin of Troy Fisher (Northwestern) and Jacob Covaciu won an 8-1 decision over Neil Antrassian (Penn).
The tournament will continue tomorrow with session III starting at 1:00 p.m. ET.
