NOTES: IU Squares Off with UConn in Tuesday's Jimmy V Classic

OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 120th season of competition in men's basketball and will travel to Madison Square Garden to face UConn in the Jimmy V Classic. Louisville and Texas Tech will play in the opener at 7 p.m.
The Huskies have a 6-3 lead in the series and the teams last met in the 2013 2K Classic with the future national champions edging IU 59-58 also in MSG. This will be the fourth time that IU has participated in this event. The Hoosiers defeated North Carolina in 1999 in the Meadowlands and Pitt in 2009 in MSG and lost to Louisville in 2014.

THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his third season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. He is 182-95 in eight-plus years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. He is 43-32 at IU. Danny Hurley is in his second year at UConn. He is 22-19 with the Huskies. Miller and Hurley squared off the in A10 when Miller coached Dayton and Hurley guided Rhode Island.
NEWS & NOTES
Senior Devonte Green returns home. He is a product of Long Island Lutheran and is tied for the team lead in scoring at 14.8 ppg. He is shooting 51.7% from three-point range. He scored a career-high 30 points and added 6 rebounds and 3 assists in leading the Hoosiers over Florida State. Freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis is averaging 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds. He leads the team shooting 64.2% from the floor and in blocked shots with 19. He has had 4 double-doubles in 9 games this season. Among freshmen nationally, he is 2nd in FG% and free throw made per game, 3rd in free throws attempted, 4th in blocked shots and 9th in rebounding. He has twice been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Junior Justin Smith is averaging 13.8 points and 4.8 rebounds and leads the team in steals with 14. Junior Aljami Durham had a team-high 17 points against Wisconsin. He is averaging 13.1 points and is shooting 52.8% from the field and 43.8% from long distance. In his last game at MSG in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament, he made all 10 of his free throws against Rutgers.
ODDS AND TRENDS
IU leads the nation in free throws made per game at 20.9 and free throws attempted at 29.7 per game. The Hoosiers are 8th in the nation in field goal percentage (50.8), 6th in scoring margin (22.0).
