Bloomington, Ind.– Indiana water polo welcomes three new faces to their administrative staff for the 2019 season. The new support coming from athletic performance, academic services and media relations is designed to enhance the team's overall performance both academically and physically.
Athletic Performance Coach
Lanie Deppe enters 2019 in her second consecutive season at Indiana as an athletic performance coach, this time adding water polo under her belt in the quest for athletic excellence.
A native of Bloomington, Deppe was a four-year varsity rower at Indiana University earning outstanding athletic achievements including Most Dedicated Athlete, Team Scholastic Achievement and Team Leadership awards. During her tenure, Deppe also received a bachelor's degree as a Fitness Specialist in 2007 before obtaining her master's in Applied Sport Science at Indiana.
From 2008-14, Deppe oversaw women's swimming, women's soccer, rowing and field hockey for the Hoosiers before taking on a new role as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Old Dominion. After two years at Old Dominion, Deppe went on to serve as the Assistant Director of Women's Basketball Performance at the University of Maryland.
During her time at Maryland, the Terps posted a 58-11 overall record with Big Ten regular season and postseason championships in the 2016-17 year. Deppe returned to Indiana in 2018, and now provides the women's water polo team with a strong insight on strength building and physical condition to ensure the highest level of athletic performance whilst competing in the pool.
Academic Services
Tyler Wright began his work as an academic assistant with the Hoosiers in the summer of 2018. Along with overseeing the water polo team, Wright is also academically responsible for baseball, softball and volleyball.
Upon his arrival at Indiana, Wright earned an associate of arts from Kaskaskia College. During his two-year endeavor at Kaskaskia, he participated on the school's baseball team before attending Western Kentucky University where he received a degree in Sport Management. Following his undergraduate achievements, Wright went on to earn his masters in Recreation from WKU in 2016.
Wright began his academic work experience at Union College as an Athletic Admissions Counselor. He later went on to be the Assistant Registrar for Athletic Compliance and Reporting at Campbell University where he acted as the liaison between the Registrar's Office and the University's Athletic Department. During this time, Wright married his wife Megan in July of 2017. Together they have two golden retrievers, Rupp and Wrigley.
With his administrative support, Wright helps to enhance the student-athlete development for water polo by providing a wide range of academic services and opportunities for success outside of the pool.
A message from Tyler: "Coach Castle, his staff, and the team have made my transition to IU very smooth. All of the ladies work very hard academically and are such a delight to work with on a daily basis. Working with student-athletes has always been a dream of mine and I am very excited to get the opportunity to work with such a top-notch program."
Media Relations
As a recent graduate of Indiana University, Jade Rogers enters her first season working with water polo as the team's Sport Information Director. Rogers took her first steps in the communications field after beginning an internship in Indiana's media relations department during her final year as an undergraduate.
While earning a degree in Sport Marketing and Management from the School of Public Health at Indiana, Rogers was also a member of the Sport Marketing Alliance, Student Athletic Board and the IU Student Foundation. She now serves as the primary communications outlet for all media pertaining to the water polo team.
A message from Rogers: "I'm excited to be working in a highly competitive atmosphere with such a talented and hardworking group of girls. The coaching staff as well as the athletes have been very welcoming and helpful during my transition into the new position. The entire team's positivity and kind-hearted spirits are reflective in their presentation and cooperation when working together."
