OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 119th season of competition in men's basketball. The Hoosiers are coming off 48-46 loss at home to Purdue. Iowa lost at home, 66-65 to Maryland. The Hawkeyes won the previous meeting in Bloomington, 77-72 on February 7. Last year in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, IU rode the effort of Robert Johnson, who tied a school record with 9 3FG, and a late basket by Freddie McSwain to post an 84-82 win.
THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his 2nd season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. He has a 29-28 record since taking over the Hoosiers. He is 168-91 in 7-plus years as a head coach, which includes 6 years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. Fran McCaffery is in his 9th year with Iowa.

Senior forward Juwan Morgan and freshman guard Romeo Langford were selected to the 10-member Preseason All-Big Ten team. Langford is the top freshman scorer in the conference averaging 17.1 ppg. He has shot 39.1% from long distance over the last 5 games making 9 of 23 3FG. He has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week 4 times. Langford's scoring average is the third highest for a freshman at IU. Eric Gordon averaged 20.9 in 2007-08 and Mike Woodson averaged 18,5 in 1976-77.
Morgan earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week accolades after his record-setting 35-point effort against Butler. He has scored 1,222 career points (36th all-time at IU) and is 4th in the B1G in double-doubles with 8.
After ranking as high as 2nd in the nation in field goal shooting a few weeks ago, the Hoosiers have shot just 37.1% in their last 11 games.
Junior De'Ron Davis (ankle), who had only played 31 minutes in 6 games since December 19, played a season-high 25 minutes and posted more season-high's in points (12), rebounds (6) and assists (4) in the win against Michigan State. Against Iowa, he played 23 minutes and had 4 points, 5 boards and a career-high 7 assists. He had 6 points against Ohio State and had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocked shots against Minnesota. He is averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in the last 5 games and is shooting a team-high 57.7% in that span. He has also made 10 of 14 free throws (71.4%)
Redshirt freshman Race Thompson made his long-awaited return from a concussion he suffered before the 3rd game of the season. Playing in his home state of Minnesota, he played 7 minutes and had 2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and a steal against the Golden Gophers.
Despite the last second loss to Purdue, the Hoosiers played outstanding defense against the 5th most efficient offense according to KenPom. IU held the Boilermakers 26.6 points below their scoring average, their third worst shooting effort (31.7%) and their lowest percentage from three-point range (20.0). Their 4 free throws made also tied a season low. IU held the Big Ten's leading scorer, Carsen Edwards to a 4 for 24 night from the field and a 0 for 10 effort from three-point range.
