IU Falls to No. 15 Illinois, 6-1

Urbana-Champaign, Ill. – The Indiana men's tennis team (8-7, 2-1 B1G) saw a four-match win streak come to an end when it lost, 6-1, to the No. 15 ranked Illinois Fighting Illini (7-5, 2-0 B1G) on Sunday afternoon inside the Atkins Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers came up short of winning their third straight doubles point after a highly contested doubles round. At one point IU led or was tied at all positions, but it was the Illini who came out on top at No. 2 and No. 3 to get ahead 1-0.
Indiana had its hands full with a Illinois singles lineup that had the No. 14, No. 33, and No. 113 ranked singles players. Zac Brodney on No. 4 and Carson Haskins on No. 3 won their first sets but the Fighting Illini took matches on courts No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 for a 4-0 lead.
With the match already decided, Illinois won at the No. 2 spot while the remaining two matches played a third set tiebreaker. At No. 4, Brodney prevailed in the tiebreaker to put Indiana on the scoreboard and improve his record to 6-3. Last year in a loss to Illinois, Brodney also won his match.
In the tiebreaker on No. 3, Illinois finished the day by claiming its sixth point.
The Hoosiers won't play a match until Saturday, March 30 when they host the Michigan State Spartans. On Sunday, March 31, IU will play Michigan. First serve for both matches inside the IU Tennis Center are at Noon.
