Cincinnati Rallies to Defeat IU, 7-5

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Indiana baseball (7-8) led by as many as three runs, but fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday night. A two-run home run for UC in the bottom of the eighth was the difference.
KEY MOMENTS
• Junior Matt Gorski led off the game with a double, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to give the Hoosiers a run in the bottom of the first. Later in the inning, freshman Grant Richardson drove in freshman Tyler Van Pelt on an RBI groundout to give IU a 2-0 lead.
• In the top of the second inning, junior Jeremy Houston walked, advanced to second on a failed pickoff and then moved to third on a base-hit from Gorski. Standing on first, Gorski created distraction and forced a balk to plate Houston to make it a 3-0 game.
• In the bottom of the third, Cincinnati got its scoring started with a two-out error on a ground ball to cut the lead to two runs.
• The Hoosiers got the run back in the top of the fourth as Lloyd drove in a run on a fielder's choice to increase the lead to 4-1.
• The Bearcats retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI single by AJ Bumpass was followed by a two-out bases clearing double by Dondrae Bremner gave UC a 5-4 edge.
• Houston tied the game up with two outs in the top of the eight by singling up the middle to score Richardson, who led off with a double.
NOTES
• Freshman Gabe Bierman allowed just three hits and one run (unearned) in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk in his second career start.
• Gorski strung together a season-high three hits, his 11th career game with three-or-more hits, and his 43rd career multi-hit game. The junior extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
• With a double in the first inning, sophomore Cole Barr extended his hitting streak to seven games.
• In his first career start, Van Pelt tallied the first two hits of his career and reached base a total of three times.
• Richardson made his collegiate debut, and his first career hit came on a double in the eighth inning, while the RBI was the first of his career.
• Houston tallied his fourth multi-hit game of the season and the 21st of his career, as he went 2-for-3 with walk, RBI and run scored.
• Sophomore Drew Ashley was 2-for-5, marking his third multi-hit game of the season and the 11th of his career.
• The Hoosiers recorded a season-high 13 hits.
• Sophomore Connor Manous tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh inning.
