Hoosiers Secure Victory over Hawaii, 4-3

HONOLULU – It came down to a third-set tiebreaker, but the Indiana women's tennis team prevailed 4-3 over Hawaii on Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Hoosiers (11-6) won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Hawaii (3-6) won the first two singles matches to grab a 2-1 lead, but then Caitlin Bernard won for the Hoosiers to even the score 2-2. Natalie Whalen put the Hoosiers up 3-2 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles.

Hawaii tied the match 3-3 with a win at No. 4 singles in three sets.

The match came down to No. 6 singles and freshman Somer Henry for the Hoosiers. Henry trailed 3-4 in the third set, but came back to tie it 5-5. After going down 6-5 she forced the tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker she cruised to a 7-1 victory and won her match, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).

The match with Hawaii lasted three hours and 40 minutes.

Up next the Hoosiers continue Big Ten play on the road at Minnesota on Friday March 22.
