No. 19 Hoosiers Hurt by the Long Ball Against Northwestern, 5-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 19 Indiana Softball fell to Northwestern on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats scored all their runs on homers to come away with a 5-0 victory in the Hoosier Classic.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Wildcats had four hits of the day, with all of them being home runs.
• Rachel Lewis led off the game with a solo shot to left center.
• Another leadoff homer came off the bat of Maeve Nelson in the fifth as she sent one off the foul poll in left.
• Morgan Nelson made it 3-0 in the sixth as she hit a two-out home run to right center.
• The final runs came across in the seventh as Morgan Newport homered on a two-run shot to centerfield.

• Junior Gabbi Jenkins and sophomore Makayla Ferrari each picked up a hit for Indiana.
• Senior Tara Trainer took the loss for Indiana as she went 5.2 innings, surrendering three solo homers. Trainer did strike out 11 Wildcats in the loss.
• Junior Emily Goodin came in relief for the Hoosiers, going 1.1 frames and striking out one.
• Northwestern's Danielle Williams earned a complete game victory, striking out 10.
• Indiana moved to 23-6 on the season while Northwestern improved to 19-6.

"Give credit to Williams, she was tremendous today in the circle for the Wildcats. Our offense was quiet while Northwestern took advantage of the long ball. We need to attack more at the plate and have a more aggressive approach to generate some offense."
