Indiana Heads to Indiana State for Midweek Contest

• Indiana baseball opens a big week with an in-state matchup at the Indiana State Sycamores on Tuesday at 4 p.m. from Bob Warn Field.
• Tuesday will be the 112th ever meeting between IU and ISU, as the two squads met on April 10, 2018 in Bloomington, with the Hoosiers earning a 6-1 victory.
• IU leads the all-time series between the two schools, 65-45-1.
• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer is in his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted an 88-56 career record after leading Wright State to winning seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
• Indiana State head coach Mitch Hannahs is in his sixth season at the helm of the Sycamore baseball program. He was an All-American second baseman for Indiana State from 1986 to 1989 and served as an assistant coach under the legendary Bob Warn from 1995 to 2001.
• For the first time in his career, senior catcher Ryan Fineman was named Big Ten Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend against Canisius.
• The Westlake Village, Calif.-native tallied nine RBI on nine hits and scored 10 runs while batting .600 on the week. He hit a trio of home runs and two doubles as he registered a .667 on-base percentage and 1.333 slugging percentage.
• Junior starting pitcher Andrew Saalfrank struck out 14 hitters on Sunday in his start and win over Canisius. It marked the most for an Indiana pitcher since Zach McClellan had 14 against Vermont on March 18, 2000
• The junior left hander went seven innings, allowing five hits and one run with the 14 strikeouts and two walks.
• Freshman outfielder Grant Richardson made the first five appearances and starts of his career this past week, hitting .368 on the week, going 7-for-9 with one home run, two doubles, six RBI and six runs scored to go along with a stolen base.
• Senior utility player Matt Lloyd enters Tuesday with a 13-game reached base streak.
• The Hoosiers enter the week first in the Big Ten in home runs (26, 10th nationally), slugging percentage (.437, 49th), and runs (118), and are third in doubles (33) and hit by pitch (23).
• Indiana pitching is second in ERA (3.29, 36th nationally) ane WHIP (1.24, 33rd).
• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (395) and conference wins (161). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.
• For the fifth time in six years, Indiana was selected to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament field. The No. 2-seeded Hoosiers played in the Austin Regional and reached the Regional final, eventually falling to Texas, 3-2.
• Lloyd, junior Matt Gorski and, sophomore Tanner Gordon were named Indiana's Preseason Players to Watch by the Big Ten and the Hoosiers were picked to finish fourth in the league by the conference coaches.
• For the third consecutive season in 2018, catcher Ryan Fineman was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, an award that recognizes the nation's top catcher.
• The senior backstop has played in 177 career games, making 159 starts in four seasons. Of
those 159 starts, 149 have come behind the dish.
• The Westlake Village, Calif.-native is IU's active career leader in games played, starts and at-bats (612).
• With his three RBIs against Butler Feb. 27, Fineman drove in six runs in a three-game span, with Tennesee and Cincinatti being the other two games.
• An All-Big Ten Freshman selection, a Johnny Bench Award Watch Lister, and Indiana's primary catcher in 2016, Fineman appeared in 54 games, making 50 starts (47 behind the plate).
• During his rookie campaign in 2016, the California native finished tied for third on the team with 51 hits, while also adding eight doubles (T-3rd), three home runs (T-5th) and 25 RBI (T-3rd).
• Fineman was second in the Big Ten catching 15 runners trying to steal and was third in fewest stolen bases allowed amongst starting catchers.
• Junior Wyatt Cross provides a reliable and experienced backup behind the plate to Fineman.
• He has played in 24 career games for the Hoosiers, making 14 starts, including three this year.
• In the win over No. 21 UConn, he hit the game-tying home run to make it 3-3, the second of his career, as the Hoosiers went on to earn the 9-6 victory.
• Cross spent 2017 at San Jacinto Junior College prior to spending his freshman campaign at North Carolina.f

games as a freshman.
• Out of high school, he was ranked the No. 40 recruit in the country by Perfect Game as well as the No. 2 catcher in the nation and the No. 3 player overall in the state of Colorado.
