LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Indiana Softball dropped a midweek contest to Louisville on the road Tuesday evening, 5-2.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers loaded the bases in the opening inning on a single by sophomore Taylor Lambert, a fielder's choice and nine-pitch walk to junior Katie Lacefield. However, a pop-up in foul territory left them loaded.
• Louisville jumped ahead in the home half of the first on a leadoff homer by Celene Funk to right center.
• Indiana responded immediately using two-out hitting in the second. First, freshman Tete Hart lined a single to left before Lambert tripled to the fence in left field to bring her in and tie the game.
• The Cardinals jumped back in front in the third thanks to a three-run homer to left by Taylor Roby, bringing in Charley Butler and Jordyn Wolfe.
• Sophomore Grayson Radcliffe answered for the Hoosiers as she led off the fourth inning with a solo homer to right center.
• IU looked to rally in the sixth as a walk to Lacefield, single by sophomore Maddie Westmoreland and Louisville error loaded the bases. However, a double play ball and a pop-up ended the Hoosier threat.
• The Cardinals added on a run in the sixth on an RBI bunt single by Kara Snyder.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Lambert led the Hoosiers at the plate with a 2-for-4 outing.
• Senior Tara Trainer took the loss for Indiana as she went 3.0 frames, allowing four runs while striking out five.
• junior Emily Goodin came in for relief, going 3.0 frames and allowing one run with four strikeouts. Goodin retired the first six Cardinals she faced.
• Indiana's record falls to 25-10, while Louisville improves to 21-10.
• The game marked Indiana's final non-conference game of the regular season as the Hoosiers posted a 25-7 record.
HEAD COACH SHONDA STANTON
"We had our opportunities, but they got the timely hit and we didn't. That's really what it came down to. The good thing is it's out of conference play and now we need to get ready to jump back into Big Ten action. We can't take any pitches off this weekend."
UP NEXT
The Hoosiers return to Big Ten play this weekend as they play host to Michigan State for a three-game set. First pitch of the series is slated for Friday at 6 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
