Hoosiers Make Strong Statement at Stanford Invite

Stanford, Calif.— It was a night of records as Indiana Track & Field competed at day one of the Stanford Invite late Friday night. Maggie Allen led the Hoosiers as she broke a 30-year-old school record in the 10000m. On a national scale, Daniel Michalski and Kyle Mau now lead the NCAA in their respective events. Bryce Millar added to an already successful day by putting up a PR in the men's 10000m.
Michalski kicked off the meet for the Hoosiers as he won the men's steeplechase in a time of 8:35.82. His time leads the NCAA and moves him up to third on the school all-time list.
Surging ahead on the last lap, Mau kicked off his outdoor season by winning the 5000m in a personal record time of 13:44.43. The redshirt junior is now the national leader and moves into 8th all-time in program history. Ben Veatch also competed in the event and placed third with a time of 13:45.92. On the women's side, Katherine Receveur raced to a time of 15:54.78.
Allen continues to make her mark on the program, as she set a new school record in the 10000m with a time of 32:54.80. The record was previously set by Michelle Dekkers in 1989 at IUPUI.
Millar capped a strong day for Indiana as he set a personal record in the 10000m with a time of 29:28.57. His previous PR was 29:39.17.
Indiana saw three compete unattached. Sarah Schmitt took a time of 16:32.51 in the second section of the women's 5000m. Arjun Jha and Dustin Horter both ran on the men's side of the 5000m as Jha crossed in the a time of 13:56.38 with Horter finished with a time of 14:33.42.
