Hoosiers Ready to Compete at Tennessee Relays This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Track & Field will see a high level of competition this weekend as they travel to the annual Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. The meet will begin on Thursday, Apr. 11 and wrap up on the Saturday Apr. 13. Hope Purcell kicks off a full slate of events for the Hoosiers as she competes in the women's heptathlon beginning Thursday at 12 p.m.

Meet Schedule
Tennessee Relays will consist of 26 events—15 track events, 9 field events, a heptathlon, and a decathlon
Thursday's Schedule of Events—Heptathlon (women's), Scott Hartman Decathlon (men's), javelin (men's), hammer (men's).
Friday's Schedule of Events (track; men followed by women)—110m hurdles, 100m, 400m hurdles, 400m, 800m, steeplechase, 1500m, 200m, and 5000m.
Friday's Schedule of Events (field)—hammer (women's), pole vault (women's), long jump (men's & women's), shot put (women's), high jump (women's), shot put (men's), pole vault (men's).
Saturday's Schedule of Events (track; men followed by women)—4x200 relay, distance medley relay (DMR), sprint medley relay (SMR), 4x100 relay, 4x800 relay, 4x400 relay.
Saturday's Schedule of Events (field)—discus (women's), invite pole vault (men's), high jump (men's), discus (men's), triple jump (men's & women's), invite pole vault (women's).

At the annual Pepsi Florida Relays, the men's sprit medley relays squad broke the school record to highlight the three day meet for the Hoosiers. Derek Grimmer, Rikkoi Brathwaite, DuShawn Tunstall, and Copper Williams broke a 38-year-old record in a time of 3:19.92. Adam Coulon tied his PR height of 5.52m (18' 1.25") on his way to first in the pole vault. Kenneth Hagen and Eric Bethea set new PR's in their respective events. Hagen grabbed a PR of 1:50.19 while Eric Bethea set a new out PR in the triple jump with a distance of 19.19m (53' 1.5"). The junior had the best jump among collegiate competitors. Katherine Receveur ran solid as she clocked a time of 15:54.78.

On Monday, USTFCCCA released their weekly ratings index which saw the Indiana men ranked No. 16 among the top-25. In the Great Lakes region, the women's team is ranked No. 2 while the men rank No. 3.

Among the Nation's Best
The top-48 in each event will compete throughout Memorial Day Weekend at the NCAA East Regional Prelims. 26 Hoosiers sit in the NCAA East Region through three weeks of regular season competition. A trio of Hoosiers leads the region in their respective events. Daniel Michalski currently leads the east region as well as the country in the steeplechase after clocking a time of 8:35.82. Kyle Mau raced a 13:44.43 5000m two weekends ago and now holds the top spot in the country and in the NCAA East Region. Eric Bethea hold the top spot in the region in the triple jump after his performance of 16.19m (53' 1.5") at the Florida Relays.
