Oliver, Martin Punch Tickets to National Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – Seniors Elijah Oliver and Bryce Martin earned automatic qualifying spots in the NCAA Championships as Indiana concluded the opening day of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday at Williams Arena.
For Oliver he becomes the seventh wrestler in program history to be a four-time NCAA qualifier and first since head coach Angel Escobedo (2007-10).
Martin will be making his second trip to the NCAA Wrestling Championships after he qualified for the first time in the 2017-18 season.
Oliver continued his strong momentum as he took down No. 13 ranked and No. 6 seed in the Big Ten Championships, Drew Mattin of Michigan with a 6-3 decision to advance to the consolation semifinal.
Martin will wrestle for seventh-place tomorrow in session III of the tournament.
Oliver got the day started in dramatic fashion as he got the pin in 18 seconds over No. 14 Zeke Moisey of Nebraska.
Oliver and Bryce Martin advanced to the quarterfinals, but dropped bouts against No. 3 wrestlers. Martin battled tough against No. 3 Evan Wick of Wisconsin, but came up short, 6-1.
The Hoosiers went 5-0 in consolation round one matches, highlighted by a technical fall 22-7 win by senior Norman Conley.
Indiana has four wrestlers (Jake Danishek, Kyle Luigs, Jacob Covaciu and Norman Conley) battling in the ninth-place bracket in their weight classes.
Indiana will resume action in session III of the Big Ten Championships tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET.
