BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Announced last week, Indiana Rowing junior Abigail Bogovich has been invited to US Rowing's U23 National Selection Camp this summer Charlottesville, Va.
"I'm really excited to represent IU at the national level," Bogovich said. "I am going to take with me everything I have learned from the IU coaches and all of the energy from the IU team and push myself to do my very best this summer."
The Framingham, Mass. native said she started rowing in high school about five years ago and thought ice hockey would be her path to college. But picking up rowing at Vermont Academy peaked her interest in the sport and said the experience has been life changing.
"I've never experienced a greater sense of team than being in a boat with eight other girls that all have to row in-sync to be successful," Bogovich said.
Bogovich is part of the Hoosiers Varsity 8 boat this season, moving up from the 2nd Varsity 8 the past two season where in 2018 where she helped her boat finish 16th overall at the NCAA Championships, said she was inspired by her teammates and coaching staff to have the sport push her as far as she could go. She was encouraged by the IU coaching staff to pursue the U23 opportunity and is excited to embrace the opportunity to compete for a spot at the national level.
The women's camp will select the U23 women's eight, four, quadruple sculls and four with coxswain that will compete at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 24-28 in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
She said the experience is sure to help her grow as a rower over the summer as she heads into her senior season in 2020.
"I believe rowing at the national camp will develop me as a rower, as a teammate and allow me to be a strong leader on the team. Being accepted to the U23 camp has instilled a confidence in me that I didn't imagine I would have in rowing."
