Hoosiers Take Series Opener over Michigan State, 13-4

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Indiana baseball (26-12, 8-2) upped its winning streak to nine games with a 13-4 series opening win at Michigan State on Friday night.
KEY MOMENTS
• With two outs in the top of the first, junior Scotty Bradley doubled in junior Matt Gorski, who doubled, to give IU the early 1-0 lead.
• The Hoosiers padded their lead in the top of the second. Senior Wyatt Cross stroked an RBI double down the line, which was then followed by back-to-back RBI singles from sophomore Drew Ashely and Gorski.
• A defensive miscue with the leadoff hitter in the top of the second eventually led to a two-out, three-run home run from Casey Mayes trimmed the IU lead to 4-3.
• The Spartans knotted the game up at four, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.
• Indiana loaded the bases in the top of the fifth and in result, worked four bases loaded walks to plate four runs.
• After a run scored on a wild pitch in the six, Ashely laced a two-run double down the line to give the Hoosiers a 12-4 cushion.
• Cross knocked out his third home run of the season in the top of the eighth to put IU up by nine runs.
NOTES
• On the mound, Milto tossed seven innings with seven striekouts, no walks and four runs allowed.
• Milto picked up career win No. 24, moving him to alone in fifth all-time at IU. He now has 11 career wins in Big Ten games, which puts him in a five-way tie with Matt Bashore (2007-09), Kevin Zaleski (1994-96), Bob Scafa (1991-94) and Scott Gidley (1973-76).
• Gorski led Indiana with three hits on the night. Bradley, freshman Grant Richardson and sophomore Elijah Dunham each tallied two-hit games.
• Sophomores Braden Scott and Austin Long each threw scoreless innings of relief.
