Men's Golf In Iowa City for Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Indiana men's golf team will travel to Iowa City to participate in the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa. This marks the Hoosiers first time competing in this event since the 1999-2000 season.
 
The 12-team tournament will have teams play 36 holes on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. Eastern and then 18 holes on Sunday.

History at the Hawkeye Invitational
The last time the Hoosiers participated in the Hawkeye Invitational was the first tournament of the 1999-2000 season, The Hoosiers finished third as a team with Aldo Jordan leading the way in a tie for 15th.
 
'Shepherd'-ing The Hoosiers
Sophomore Ethan Shepherd is second on the team with a 72.96 scoring average through the first nine tournaments of the 2018-19 campaign. It is approximately three strokes better than his freshman season scoring average (75.83). He also has four Top 25 finishes this season while he had two such finishes in eight tournaments as a freshman. The Greenwood, Ind., native also has the two of the three lowest rounds to par this year for IU, carding a 67 (-5) at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational to start the year and a 66 (-6) at Chatham Hills.
 
Brown Has Strong Showing At Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase
Senior Jake Brown was one of 12 collegiate golfers to compete at the Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase at Riviera Country Club, an event held in conjunction with the PGA TOUR's Genesis Open. Brown finished the 18-hole round at 1-under par to tie for third place.
 
"Brock" For More
Junior Brock Ochsenreiter, who narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Regionals last year, has finished T25 or better in six of the nine tournaments so far this season. His 72.81 scoring average leads the team and slightly better than his 72.97 average last season.
 
What Can Brown Do?
After opening the year with a T12 finish at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, senior Jake Brown posted finishes of T49 and T62 the next two times out. But he showed once again that he thrives on difficult courses at the Maridoe Intercollegiate, where he carded scores of 77 and 74 in the first two rounds but then rallied to post 69 in the final round and tie for 14th. He followed that up with a T6 finish at Chatham Hills. It was the 13th career Top 15 finish for Brown in 41 events.
 
Mitch Makes His Pitch
After missing two tournaments due to injury, freshman Mitch Davis returned at the Boilermaker Invitational, competing as an individual, and finished at 3-under par to tie for 12th place. It marked his second Top 12 finish of the season and his second straight Top 25 after a T21 showing at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in March.
 
Reynolds Wrap
Freshman Harry Reynolds has a trio of Top 25 finishes in seven starts, highlighted by a T18 finish at Chatham Hills and a tie for 21st at Chambers Bay. At Chambers Bay, he carded three straight rounds of 70, which matches his lowest 18-hole score of the season.
 
Tournament #1 Recap – Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational
The Indiana Hoosiers opened the 2018-19 season with a solid second place showing at the inaugural Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, posting a team score of 846 (282-284-280; -18). It is the best team score since 2016 and the Hoosiers were led by Ethan Shepherd and his score of 210 (70-73-67; -6) to tie for fifth, which was a career-best finish and was capped off with his career-best 18-hole score in the final round (67). Jack Sparrow (T7), Evan Gaesser (T10) and Jake Brown (T12) also finished inside the top 10. Mitch Davis, competing in his first collegiate tournament, tied for seventh at 5-under par.
 
Tournament #2 Recap – Olympia Fields Invitational
At one of the most elite fields in the country, the Hoosiers finished 11th out of 14 teams at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. Brock Ochsenreiter led the Hoosiers with a score of 216 (70-72-74; +6), which was good for a tie for 22nd. It marked his fifth Top 25 in his last six events for the Hooisers. Freshman Mitch Davis was also solid in his first appearance in the lineup, coming in tied for 27th at 8-over par.
 
Tournament #3 Recap – Windon Memorial
Junior Brock Ochsenreiter continued his strong play to start the 2018-19 season, finishing tied for eighth with a score of 214 (70-73-71; -2) at the Windon Memorial. Ethan Shepherd joined Ochsenreiter in the Top 25 after posting a score of 219 (70-77-72; +3) put him in a tie for 24th. As a team, the Hoosiers tied for 12th with a total score of 886.
 
Tournament #4 Recap – Maridoe Intercollegiate
At the Maridoe Intercollegiate, the Hoosiers finished 9th out of the 14-team field with a score of 903. Senior Jake Brown paced the Cream and Crimson with a score of 220 (77-74-69; +10) while Brock Ochsenreiter added another Top 25 finish as he tied for 24th with a score of 225 (76-77-72; +15).
 
Tournament #5 Recap – Chatham Hills Collegiate
The Hoosiers finished in fourth place out of 11 teams at Chatham Hills, with Ethan Shepherd (4th) and Jake Brown (T6th) earning Top 10 finishes. Shepherd's performance included a 66 in round two, the best round to par of any IU golfer this season. Freshman Harry Reynolds (T18) and Brock Ochsenreiter (T25) also garnered Top 25 finishes.

A second round 64 – a new career best - from Brock Ochsenreiter helped the junior to a second-place individual finish and the Hoosiers finished fourth as a team. It also improved his streak of Top 25 finishes to 10 times in the last 11 tournaments dating back to the 2017-18 season. Jake Brown joined Ochsenreiter in the Top 25, finishing T22 with a score of 220.
 
Tournament #7 Recap – Big Ten Match Play
The Hoosiers went 2-2 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in February, posting wins over Minnesota and Penn State. Ethan Shepherd led IU with a 3-1 record in the event while Brock Ochsenreiter and Evan Gaesser went 2-2.

Ethan Shepherd continued his strong play by leading the way for IU at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular with a 17th place finish at 2-over par. Freshman Mitch Davis recorded his second-best finish of the year by tying for 21st at 4-over par. As a team, the Hoosiers finished in ninth place.

Freshman Harry Reynolds led the way for IU at Chambers Bay, site of the 2015 U.S. Open, finishing in a tie for 21st at 3-under par for the 54 holes. Evan Gaesser opened with a round of 69 on his way to a T37 finish as the Hoosiers finished tied for 10th out of 18 teams.
 
Tournament #10 Recap – Boilermaker Invitational
The Boilermaker Invitational ended up being a 36-hole event after inclement weather canceled the final round. As a team, Indiana finished 13th out of 15 teams while Mitch Davis, playing as an individual, led the way. Brock Ochsenreiter tied for 22nd at 1-under par to pace those competing towards the team score.
