
IU Hosts Purdue in Midweek DH on BTN

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Softball (28-13) returns home to Andy Mohr Field for a five-game homestand beginning with a Wednesday evening doubleheader against in-state rival Purdue (27-14). First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and admission is free of charge.
The doubleheader will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network with Lisa Byington and Carol Bruggeman on the call. In addition, a free radio broadcast will be available on IUHoosiers.com with Sam Neidermann and Connor Hines on the airwaves.
WEDNESDAY PROMOTIONS
The first 300 fans to Wednesday's doubleheader will receive a free Indiana t-shirt. In addition, there will be $1 hot dogs and popcorn for sale at the concession stand.
Wednesday will also mark Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day as members of the team have invited guests to throw out a first pitch and say thank you for all their support of the program.
SCOUTING PURDUE
At 27-14, the Boilermakers have matched its best season win total since 2016. In conference action, Purdue has taken the series from both Iowa and Penn State and was swept by Minnesota. Against common opponents with Indiana (Saint Francis, Illinois State, FAU, Saint Joseph's, USF and Seton Hall), Purdue is 5-2 while the Hoosiers are 6-1. The Boilermakers are batting .289 as a team, led by Jenny Behan (.367, 47 hits, 36 runs, 33 RBI, 9 HR) and Kasey Wilhoit (.351, 40 hits, 23 runs, 25 RBI). Purdue has had six different pitchers see time in the circle but have mostly relied on Sydney Bates (2.71 ERA, 10-6, 103.1 IP) and Kaitlynn Moody (2.90 ERA, 9-5, 87.0 IP).
The Boilermakers hold a 39-34 series lead, but Indiana swept the doubleheader last season in West Lafayette, marking the first time since 2014 that the teams didn't split the matchups. Gabbi Jenkins went 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs, three stolen bases and three RBI in the 2018 doubleheader. Last season. the Hoosiers saw home runs from Maddie Westmoreland, Bella Norton and Taylor Lambert. as well as two longballs from then-senior Taylor Uden. Tara Trainer and Emily Goodin both picked up a win last season, highlighted by a complete game shutout from Trainer in game one.
The rivalry doubleheader will feature 18 total players from the state of Indiana - 10 from IU and eight from Purdue.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers dropped three games at No. 23 Michigan last weekend, including a 7-6 heartbreaker on Sunday as the Wolverines used a two-run double to walk it off. However, IU can take some positives in the loss as the six runs scored was the most the Wolverines have surrendered since March 9 and was tied for the second-most given up all season.

• The Hoosiers came in at No. 39 in this week's NCAA RPI. The Boilermakers sit at No. 81.
• At 28-13, the Hoosiers have already surpassed last season's win total (26-30). Additionally, the 28 wins are already the most for the program since the 2016 campaign (29-25).
• Sophomore Maddie Westmoreland is currently riding a team-best 12 game reached base streak. The highlight of Westmoreland's weekend in Ann Arbor was a two-home run outing on Saturday, marking her first multi-homer game of her career. Westmoreland has collected at least one hit in eight of the last 10 games with 12 total hits in that stretch.
• Sophomore Grayson Radcliffe also impressed over the weekend, batting a team-best .556 with five hits, four RBI and a run. Radcliffe got moved into the leadoff spot Sunday, delivering with three hits and tying her career-high with three RBI.
• Indiana has stolen 99 bases this season, nearly double any other Big Ten program as Ohio State has the second-most with 52. It is the third-most stolen bases in Indiana program history (most is 120 set in 1987). A season ago, the Hoosiers swiped 112 stolen bases for the second-most in program history. The Hoosiers are tied for fourth in the nation in total stolen bases and rank seventh with a 2.41 stolen bases per game average.
• Junior Gabbi Jenkins is currently leading the Hoosier bats with a .327 average and is one of four Hoosiers hitting above .300. In addition, Jenkins has stolen 16 bases this season, bringing her career total to 55, which is good for sixth-most in Indiana program history.
• Junior Emily Goodin is having a career season in the circle as her 1.92 ERA is the best of her three years at Indiana. With 89 strikeouts already, she's also on pace to set a new career best (in 2018, she had 101). Goodin has earned the start in four of the last eight games for the Hoosiers.
• Fans at Andy Mohr Field will notice the addition of extra seating as bleachers have been installed on the concourse level down the first base line, allowing for 200 more seats.
TARA TRAINER IN THE RECORD BOOKS
• Senior Tara Trainer is currently tied for the fifth-most most victories in the country with 19. She is the first Hoosier to reach at least 19 wins in a season since Morgan Melloh did so in 2011. In addition, Trainer's 173 strikeouts is good for 12th in the country and is second in the conference.
• Trainer's 173 strikeouts this season is tied for the 12th-most in a single season at Indiana. Trainer now owns four of the top 12 spots in the record book for single season strikeouts. Her 745 career strikeouts continue to stand as the second-most in program history.
• Trainer has made 154 appearances in her IU career, which is fourth all-time at Indiana. In addition, her 120 games started is third all-time while her 61 career victories is fourth, as is her 677.2 IP.
