IU Women’s Soccer Earns First Win of van Bennekom Era

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer earned a 1-0 victory against UIC on Sunday afternoon at Bill Armstrong Stadium, collecting its first win of the season, as well as the first victory under head coach Erwin van Bennekom.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers held a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half, including three on-target. One of the closest sequences came in the 25th minute as freshman Bria Telemaque knocked a chance off the crossbar and freshman Allie Schlom followed it up with a wide look.
• Senior Chandra Davidson, who had a pair of on-target shots in the opening half, broke through in the 60th minute to score the first Indiana goal of the season. First, junior Hanna Németh flipped the field, sending the ball into the left side of the 18-yard box to junior Melanie Forbes. Forbes then took two steps and crossed it into Davidson, who made her run and connected from six yards out to send the ball inside the near post.
• Junior Bethany Kopel earned her first shutout of the year, collecting a pair of saves.

• The win marks the second-straight year the Hoosiers have won their home opener.
