
Hertenstein Earns First Career Win at Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana Men's and Women's Cross Country competed at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University on Saturday morning. Bailey Hertenstein led on the women's team and she earned her first career win at a meet while Kyle Mau placed second overall to lead the men's squad. The men's team finished in second with 90 points while the women took third with 99 points.
In her first win of her career, Hertenstein crossed the line in a time of 21:08.0. Kelsey Harris competed in her first meet of the season on Saturday morning as she placed 13th overall with a time of 21:42.9. Rounding out the top-20 for Indiana, redshirt freshman Sarah Schmitt clocked a time of 21:42.9 to place third for the Hoosiers and 17th overall.
Jenna Barker crossed the finish line with a time of 22:14.5 and placed 33rd overall. True freshman Mikaela Ramirez finished in 37th, clocking a time of 22:14.5. Abi Little concluded the race in 43rd and saw a time of 22:28.4. Grace Walther ended the morning with a time of 22:41.2 to finish in 61st. Ana Barrott ran her second meet of the season as she clocked a time of 22:56.6 to place 73rd. Completing the field of Cream & Crimson were Joely Pinkston (23:46.1) and Maddie Dalton (23:53.3) who placed 126th and 132nd, respectively.
On the men's side Kyle Mau led the Hoosier charge as he placed second overall in his first meet of the season with a time of 24:24.5. Also competing in his first meet of the season, Ben Veatch captured fifth place after clocking a time of 24:35.1. Sophomore Arjun Jha also made his season debut Saturday as he finished in 13th with a time of 24:51.4. Four Hoosiers finished back-to-back as Hunter Moore (24:58.2), Skylar Stidam (24:58.3), Bryce Millar (25:00.8), and Keelan Grant (25:02.5) all finished 19th through 22nd respectively.
Ben Miller finished 25th overall with a time of 25:11.1. Jake Gebhardt and Reese Jordan finished 28th and 29th respectively as Gebhardt clocked a time of 25:12.5 and Jordan saw a time of 25:12.8. Matthew Schadler picked up 31st place finish as he ended the meet with a time of 25:20.6. Dustin Horter competed in his first meet of the season as he raced to a 35th place and captured a time of 25:24.6. Colin Murphy returned to the course and challenged himself to a time of 25:41.5. Competing the fireld of Hoosiers, Aaron Bennett captured 84th with a time of 26:20.5.
Indiana will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. for the Joe Piane Invitational on campus of the University of Notre Dame.
