
IUXC Ready for John McNichols Invite at Indiana State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's and women's cross-country team will remain close to home on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they compete at the John McNichols Invitational hosted by Indiana State. The men's 8K race will begin at 9:00am EST with the women's 5K race to follow.
There are a total of 54 teams competing at the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course this weekend, (28 men and 28 women), including nationally-ranked Northern Arizona (1), Iowa State (5), Stanford (7), Wisconsin (9), Indiana (16) and Purdue (24) on the men's side, and Washington (3), Michigan (4), Arkansas (5), Stanford (8), Wisconsin (9) and Indiana (28) on the women's side.
Last time out, Indiana competed at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn.. Bailey Hertenstein picked up her first individual win of her career after beating out her opponent in the final stretch by 0.5 seconds. Kyle Mau led the Hoosier men as he returned to the course for his first meet of the season and he picked second place. The men's team finished in second while the women came in third.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) unveiled their first regular season rating index of the 2019 season. On the national scale the men's team checked in at No. 16 in the country while the women cracked the top 30 and are ranked No. 28. In the Great Lakes region, the IU men came in at No. 4 while the women took the No. 6 spot.
The Individual accolades rolled in this week for the Hoosiers as Hertenstein and Mau received Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday. Hertenstein was named USTFCCCA Women's National Athlete of the week. This is the first time that a Hoosier has received this honor.
