
Men’s Golf Set to Compete Amongst Nation’s Best at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Indiana men's golf is set to play amongst the elite in this weekend's Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at the famed Olympia Fields Country Club. The first round of the three-day, 54-hole event will tee off Friday at 9 a.m. ET. The teams will play 18-holes each day with the final round teeing off Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The Olympia Fields/ Fighting Illini Invitational is in its 14th season and will see some of the nation's top teams competing in the event. Olympia Fields Country Club is home to several big events such as the 2015 U.S. Amatuer, two U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open. In addition, the club will host the 2020 PGA TOUR FedEx Playoffs.
This year's event features 13 teams ranked or receiving votes in the 2019 Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll, including three top-5 teams in No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Oklahoma State.
Last Year at Olympia Fields
At last year's event, the Hoosiers were led by Ochsenreiter, who finished tied for 22nd after shooting 6-over-par. Davis finished tied for 27th after carding a pair of 73 rounds. As a team, Indiana finished in 11th place.
Top Returners
• Indiana's lineup this week is the same group that opened the season last week at the Windon Memorial. In total, the group has combined for 272 career rounds.
• Brock Ochsenreiter led the Hoosiers last year with a 72.56 average as he finished in the top 10 three times, highlighted by a second-place finish in the Steelwood Collegiate in October.
• Ethan Shepherd was close behind with his 73.06 as he recorded four top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at the Chatham Hills Collegiate.
• Mitch Davis had an impressive freshman debut for Indiana, averaging a 73.27 which is the second-best ever average for an Indiana freshman. During the summer, he won the U.S. Amateur qualifier at Sand Creek Country Club to advance to the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst.
• Harry Reynolds averaged a 74.57 in 2018-19, the 11th best ever for an IU freshman. His best finish came at the Chatham Hills Collegiate at 18th.
• Jack Sparrow was granted a sixth year of eligibility after missing the majority of last season with an injury.
Windon Memorial Recap
Indiana earned a top-10 finish earlier this week at the Windon Memorial, highlighted by a top-20 outing from sophomore Mitch Davis, who tied for 16th. Davis led the field in par-3 scoring and bogeyed just one hole on the final day. Harry Reynolds (T30) and Jack Sparrow (T35) each carded a round of 69 in the event.
