
No. 4 Indiana Faces In-State Rival Butler on Tuesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will head north to Indianapolis to face in-state rival Butler on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. ET in the Butler Bowl.

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana opened Big Ten play on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin, pushing the team's record to 4-0-2 on the year.
• IU is undefeated in the team's first six matches of a season for the third time in the last four seasons and for the 15th time in school history.
• Ian Black leads the team with three goals on the season, while A.J. Palazzolo has a team-high three assists on the year.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The preseason honors have piled up for Indiana sophomore Jack Maher prior to the 2019 season. Maher was the only sophomore named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and also earned preseason All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer (Second Team) and College Soccer News (Third Team).
• Freshman Joshua Penn was named to the preseason Freshman Best XI by Top Drawer Soccer. Indiana's 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer.
• Maher, along with Spencer Glass and Simon Waever, were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• In the Big Ten preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches, Indiana was picked No. 1. Maryland was tabbed second, while Michigan was picked to finish third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• The Butler Bulldogs come in to Tuesday night's match-up with the Hoosiers with an overall record of 3-3 on the season.
• On Friday night, the Bulldogs fell to the No. 3 Georgetown Hoyas at the Butler Bowl, 3-0.
• Prior to the season, Butler was picked to finish sixth in the Big East in a preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.
• Brandon Guhl leads the Bulldogs with three goals on the season.
SERIES HISTORY
• In series history between Indiana and Butler dating back to 1991, the Hoosiers hold a record of 23-4-4.
• IU is unbeaten in the last five matches against the Bulldogs, posting a record of 2-0-3.
• The Hoosiers are 11-1-2 against Butler in Indianapolis, with the team's last win coming on Oct. 10, 2011 (1-0).
FRESHMEN COME THROUGH AGAINST WISCONSIN
• In Indiana's 3-1, Big Ten-opening win over Wisconsin on Sept. 20, three freshmen scored goals for the Hoosiers.
• Victor Bezerra opened the scoring to give IU the lead, while both Daniel Munie and Maouloune Goumballe netted the first goals of their careers.
INDIANA UNDEFEATED IN LAST 30 HOME MATCHES
• The Hoosiers are undefeated in the team's last 30 matches at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, posting a mark of 27-0-3.
• IU's last loss at home came to No. 20 Virginia Tech, 2-1 in overtime, on Nov. 27, 2016 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
90 MINUTES NOT ENOUGH
• For the first time in program history, Indiana played in five-straight overtime matches to begin the season.
• The five overtime matches in the team's first five games is already more than IU played in 24 of the program's 47 seasons.
