Another Golden Goal Pushes the Hoosiers Past Denver, 2-1

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – For the third time this season, the No. 2 Indiana University men's soccer team netted a golden goal as they defeated Denver on Friday afternoon, 2-1, in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind. Ian Black netted net the match winner in the 98th minute while also scoring the other Hoosier goal off a penalty kick.
KEY MOMENTS
• Denver struck first in the 6th minute of the contest. The goal came off the first corner kick of the contest.
• Indiana was quick to respond as they drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick. Ian Black stepped to the line and converted to tie the match in the 28th minute.
• The Hoosiers played a man up the rest of match after a Pioneer midfielder was issued a red card in the 49th minute after being shown a yellow card previously in the match.
• In overtime, Ian Black found the back of the net in the 98th after a feed from Joe Schmidt to secure the victory for Indiana.
NOTABLES
• The three-straight overtime victories are the first for the Hoosiers since winning three-consecutive in the NCAA Tournament, Nov. 15-29, in 1998.
• With the victory, Indiana improves to 3-0-0 to begin the season for the third time in the last four seasons.
• The win for IU is the 10th-straight for the program in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. The Hoosiers last loss in the tournament came to No. 4 Akron, 1-0, on Sept. 7, 2012.
• Also with the win, Indiana moves to 2-0 all-time against Denver, with both wins coming in the Mike Berticelli Tournament (2-1, 9/11/11).
• Indiana had the shot advantage, 15-7, including four that were on target.
