BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana football standouts Rodger Saffold (2006-09), Tevin Coleman (2012-14) and Jason Spriggs (2012-15) advanced to NFL Championship games that will played on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Saffold and the No. 6-seeded Tennessee Titans will travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the second-seeded Kansas City Chiefs at 3:05 p.m. ET. Tevin Coleman and the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers are set to host Jason Spriggs and the second-seeded Green Bay Packers at 6:40 p.m. ET at Levi's Stadium.
Rodger Saffold, Tennessee Titans, Offensive Line
Saffold, a 10-year NFL veteran, helped lead the Tennessee Titans (9-7) to a 28-12 victory over the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional round, after toppling the third-seeded New England Patriots in the AFC Wild Card the previous weekend. The Titans have advanced to the AFC Championship for the fifth time in franchise history and the first time since 2002.
In the victory over the Ravens, Tennessee accounted for 217 rushing yards – the most in postseason franchise history. The game marked the second-straight playoff tilt in which the Titans compiled 200-plus rushing yards and only one sack. In the Super Bowl era (1966-present), only two other teams – the 1973 Miami Dolphins and the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers – have accomplished that statistical milestone.
Tennessee running back Derrick Henry totaled 30 carries for 195 yards in the victory and became the NFL's first player since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger with 180-or-more rushing yards in three-consecutive games.
Tevin Coleman, San Francisco 49ers, Running Back
Coleman was an integral part of the San Francisco 49ers' (14-3) success this season. The Niners returned to prominence by winning the NFC West and earned the top seed in the NFC after boasting the conference's best record.
Coleman was dominant in SF's divisional round 27-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The former 2,000-yard collegiate rusher totaled 22 carries for a game-high 105 yards and two rushing touchdowns. His yardage and scoring output marked his highest for a single postseason game in his career. The game marked his first-career 100-yard game in the postseason as well as his first-career postseason game with two-plus rushing TDs.
Coleman is the first member of the 49ers with at least two rushing scores in a postseason game since Frank Gore had two at Atlanta on Jan. 20, 2013. His 105 rushing yards are the most for any 49er in the playoffs since Colin Kaepernick (130 yards) on Jan. 19, 2014.
The five-year veteran turned in a historic performance against the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 27 when he became the first 49er since Hall of Famer Jerry Rice to score four touchdowns in a game. Rice secured four touchdown receptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 14, 1993.
Jason Spriggs, Green Bay Packers, Offensive Line
Spriggs and the Green Bay Packers (14-3) defeated the fifth-seeded Seattle Seahawks by a score of 28-23 in the NFC Divisional round. He has not seen action for the 2019 NFC North Champions after being placed on injured reserve.
