Hoosiers Win Thrilling 4-3 Match Over Memphis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– It took every position in Indiana's lineup to complete the comeback Friday night against Memphis.
After dropping the doubles point to the Tigers, IU stormed back behind four victories from singles positions to beat Memphis 4-3 Friday evening to improve to 2-0 on the season.
It was senior Bennett Crane who played the hero as his 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles gave IU the victory, the final mark in IU's comeback. It ended with him at the bottom of the dog pile as his teammates surrounding him on court one following the win.
"That was one of my first three-three clinch matches where it comes down to you at the end," Crane said. "It's a lot of adrenaline but I loved every minute of it."
IU got victories from Crane, senior Zac Brodney at No. 2 Singles, sophomore Carson Haskins at No. 3 Singles and sophomore Vikash Singh at No. 6 Singles to give the Hoosiers the four points for victory.
It had dropped its previous dual match with Memphis, 5-2 in 2018. But in front of the IU faithful, Crane's ferocious effort gave the Hoosiers enough to escape with the win.
"Us pulling together and coming through was why we were able to win that match," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "We had each others backs"
Up next IU goes to Texas to face the No. 1 ranked and defending National Champion Texas Longhorns as part of the ITA Kickoff, Jan. 25-26.
