TEAM
• No. 17/19 Indiana (2-0, 2-0 Big Ten) defeated Rutgers (1-1, 1-1 Big Ten), 37-21, at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J.
• The victory marks the first Hoosier win as a ranked team since a 24-17 triumph over Purdue on Nov. 20, 1993. IU was ranked No. 21 in the '93 Old Oaken Bucket game.
• Indiana has started 2-0 in each of the last three seasons under head coach Tom Allen and five of the last six seasons dating back to the 2015 campaign.
• The 2-0 start to Big Ten Conference play is the best start since defeating both Michigan State (31-0) and Northwestern (44-6) to open the 1991 conference slate.
• The victory gives Indiana its first Big Ten road-opening triumph since defeating Rutgers by a score of 24-17 in 2018.
• Indiana is 5-2 all-time against Rutgers, including 3-1 as the road team. The Hoosiers have toppled the Scarlett Knights in four-consecutive matchups.
• For the sixth-straight season, IU has won its first contest away from Memorial Stadium, marking the longest such streak in program history.
OFFENSE
• The Indiana Hoosiers hit the 30-point threshold for the 11th time since the beginning of the 2019 season and the second time in as many outings to start the '20 campaign. The 11 such games rank second in the Big Ten Conference, trailing only Ohio State (13).
• Redshirt sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 17-of-26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns, matching a career-best scoring output.
• Penix Jr. added 20 yards rushing, including a career-long rush of 25 yards, on six carries, and his second touchdown in as many weeks. Penix has four career rushing scores.
• Junior running back Stevie Scott III toted 21 carries for a season-high 81 yards. Scott has strung together 10-straight games with at least 50 rushing yards, a streak that began on Sept. 21, 2019, with 97 yards and a touchdown in the IU victory over UConn.
• The 81-yard effort by the Syracuse, N.Y., native was his highest rushing yardage total since securing 116 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries against Northwestern on Nov. 2, 2019.
• Senior wide receiver Whop Philyor hauled in five receptions for a game-high 137 yards. He has amassed 136 career receptions, sliding him into the 10th spot on the program's all-time receptions leaderboard.
• The Plant, Fla., product is tied for fourth in program history with seven 100-yard games. Philyor had a long reception of 63 yards in the win, his third career 50-plus yard reception.
• Redshirt junior tight end Peyton Hendershot hauled in six catches for 34 yards and his seventh and eighth-career touchdowns. His eight career touchdowns rank second in program history among tight ends, trailing only Ted Bolser (2010-13) who had 15 career touchdowns.
• The game marked the first multi-TD game for Hendershot.
• The All-Big Ten third-team selection becomes the fourth tight end in program history to accumulate 75-plus career catches (75) and 800-plus career receiving yards (832).
• Senior wide receiver Ty Fryfogle racked up four receptions for 55 yards, including a 15-yard score, his first touchdown of the 2020 campaign. The scoring grab marked his seventh career score.
• Sophomore running back Sampson James recorded seven rushes for 33 yards, both season-best totals. The rushing output is his third-highest total in his career.
• Freshman wide receiver Javon Swinton handled his only target for a gain of 17 yards.
DEFENSE
• The Hoosiers have recorded a takeaway in 31 of the last 33 games. IU has created six takeaways during the 2020 season and have scored 27 points off of them.
• The Indiana defense has at least two interceptions in three-straight games dating back to the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against Tennessee. The three interceptions mark the most by a Hoosier defense since picking off three passes at Florida International on Sept. 1, 2016.
• Sophomore cornerback Tiawan Mullen led the Hoosiers in total tackles (7), solo tackles (6), tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (2.5). Mullen had entered the game without a sack in his career.
• Junior safety Jamar Johnson racked up six tackles (4 solos). The reigning Big Ten Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week added 1.5 TFLs.
• Junior linebacker Micah McFadden notched five tackles (1 solo) to go along with 0.5 TFLs. He also grabbed in his first interception of the 2020 season, the third of his career.
• Junior safety Devon Matthews locked up six total tackles (4 solos) in the victory.
• Graduate transfer defensive tackle Jovan Swann made his Indiana Hoosier starting debut in the contest. Swann has started 20 games in his career with 19 coming at Stanford. He made two tackles (1 solo)

• Redshirt sophomore kicker Charles Campbell was true on all seven of his kicks, including a career-best three made field goals. He connected on tries from 28, 31 and 42 yards.
• The Jackson, Tenn., native is 4-for-4 from 40-plus yards in the career. Campbell also buried all four PATs.
• Graduate student punter Haydon Whitehead punted five times in the game for an average of 37.2 yards. His longest punt checked in at 43 yards with one downed inside the 20-yard line.
• Sophomore long snapper Sean Wracher has snapped in all 15 career games played at Indiana.
