Hoosiers Capture Victories over UC Santa Barbara, Xavier

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis picked up a pair of wins on Monday as they beat UCSB 4-2 and Xavier 4-0 on Monday at the IU Tennis Center.

The Hoosiers (5-3) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles against UCSB.

Luka Vukovic gave Indiana their first singles win, but UCSB claimed two early singles wins to tie the match at 2-2.

A pivotal point in the match came when Bennett Crane took down No. 8 ranked Joseph Guillin. After dropping the first set Crane won in a tiebreak in the second set and won 6-3 in the final set.

Carson Haskins embodied the Hoosiers fight when he dropped his first set in a tiebreak and trailed 5-2 in the second set. Haskins fought off multiple match points against him and stayed alive to push his second set to a tiebreak before it was abandoned.

Vikash Singh clinched the match for the Hoosiers with a three-set win. Singh came back from down 4-1 in the third set, to win it 6-4.

In the second match against Xavier, the Hoosiers won the doubles point and won five of the first six sets in singles.

The Hoosiers won three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the match.

Up next the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for a match against Purdue on Saturday Feb. 22 at 12:00 p.m.
