
Bierman’s Career Day Leads Hoosiers Past No. 30 South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Indiana University baseball team won its third-straight game on Saturday afternoon, beating No. 30-ranked South Alabama, 4-2, at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala. With the victory, Indiana improves to 3-2 on the season, while South Alabama falls to 2-5.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana jumped on the Jaguars early, scoring three runs in the top of the first. INF Jordan Fucci had an RBI single to right field, before C Collin Hopkins plated another with an RBI groundout.
• OF Elijah Dunham capped the inning, scoring from third base with some heads-up base-running on a wild pitch.
• OF Grant Richardson made the IU lead, 4-0, in the top of the fifth with a long home run over the right-field fence for his second of the season.
• RHP Gabe Bierman (1-1) had a career-day for the Hoosiers to earn the win, tossing a career-high 6.2 innings with a career-best 11 strikeouts. The sophomore allowed just two unearned runs on six hits.
• RHP McCade Brown earned his first career save with a scoreless ninth inning of work.

• With walks in the top of the first inning, Dunham extended his reached-base streak to 23 games dating back to last season, while INF Drew Ashley pushed his to 14-straight.
• Bierman's 11 strikeouts were the most for an Indiana pitcher since Andrew Saalfrank had 11 as well at Michigan State on April 21, 2019.
• The victory was the second on the road over a ranked opponent this season for Indiana. The Hoosiers beat No. 11 LSU, 7-2, on Feb. 15.
