IU Men’s Golf Heads to Puerto Rico for the Dorado Beach Collegiate

DORADO, Puerto Rico – Indiana Men's Golf continues its spring slate on Sunday with a trip to Puerto Rico for the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach. The 15-team field will play one round on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

• Indiana is one of three Big Ten schools in the event, joining Rutgers and Michigan State. Other highlights to the field include No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 21 Louisville.

Indiana Debut for Heintzelman
The Dorado Beach Collegiate will be the Hoosier debut for junior Tate Heintzelman, who transferred from Florida Gulf Coast prior to the season. Last year, he averaged a 75.00 at FGCU, including a pair of low-round 69s. In addition, he finished T38 or better in all eight tournaments.
Saved the Best for Last
The Hoosiers posted their best team finish of the year at the final fall tournament, coming in third at the Steelwood Collegiate (Oct. 26-27). Ochsenreiter and Shepherd carded an even-216 to finish tied for ninth, the best individual finishes for the team during the fall slate. Shepherd tied his career-low round as he fired a 6-under-par 66 in the second round of the event.
Davis Collects Third Top-30 Finish
Sophomore Mitch Davis recorded four top-30 finishes in the fall, highlighted by a pair of top-20 outings. He currently leads the team with a 73.80 average. Davis is coming off a freshman year that saw him post the second-best average ever for an Indiana freshman (73.27).
Tournament No. 1 Recap – Windon Memorial
Indiana earned a top-10 finish at the first event of the year at Windon Memorial, led by a top-20 outing from sophomore Mitch Davis, who tied for 16th. Davis led the field in par-3 scoring and bogeyed just one hole on the final day. Harry Reynolds (T30) and Jack Sparrow (T35) each carded a round of 69 in the event.
Tournament No. 2 Recap – Olympia Fields
The Hoosiers competed in the prestigious Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational amongst the nation's best Sept. 20-22. Ochsenreiter led the Indiana lineup as he moved up four spots on the final day to finish tied for 54th.
Tournament No. 3 Recap – Marquette Intercollegiate
IU placed fifth in the Marquette Intercollegiate. IU saw two finish in the top-20 in Jack Sparrow (T12, 1-under-par) and Mitch Davis (T19, 2-over-par).
Tournament No. 4 Recap – Crooked Stick Invitational
Indiana played host to the Crooked Stick Invitational along with Purdue. The Hoosiers finished in eighth place with Ochsenreiter earning a top-25 finish, carding a 1-under-par 71 in the final round to finish tied for 21st. Another highlight of the event came from Giachetto, who eagled for the first time in his career in the opening round.
Tournament No. 5 Recap – Steelwood Collegiate
Indiana wrapped up the fall slate at the Steelwood Collegiate in Loxley, Ala. As a team, the Hoosiers posted their best finish of the fall, coming in third in the event at 1-under-par. IU was led by a pair of top-10 finishes from Ochsenreiter and Shepherd, who both tied for ninth.
Tournament No. 6 Recap – Big Ten Match Play
The Hoosiers opened up the spring schedule Feb. 8-9 in the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla. Indiana went 1-1-1 in the event, falling to Penn State before tying Michigan then defeating Rutgers. In the final matchup with Rutgers, Davis, Shepherd and Gaessar all earned victories. Freshman Drew Giacchetto was also big in the event, earning wins in his matchups against Penn State and Michigan.
