THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– Indiana Water Polo opened up the Cal Lutheran Invite on Friday with two wins against Fresno Pacific, 17-3, and Cal Lutheran, 21-7. The wins give the Hoosiers a five-game winning streak heading into Saturday's conclusion.

Leading the Hoosiers throughout the day were sophomore Tina Doherty with six total goals and four steals and senior Megan Abarta with six total goals and five steals.

KEY MOMENTS

Sophomore Izzy Mandema led the Hoosiers off with the first two goals as IU jumped out to an 8-0 lead, while holding Fresno Pacific scoreless in the first quarter.
Mandema picked up her third goal of the game with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter to give Indiana an 8-0 lead.
Doherty picked up her first two goals of the game less than a minute apart between the 5:25 and 4:42 marks of the third quarter to give the Hoosiers a 14-2 lead. Doherty picked up a hat trick with 5:23 remaining in the game.
After trading goals with Cal Lutheran to start the game, IU went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-1 lead heading into the second quarter. Doherty and Abarta scored four of those goals.
The Hoosiers' outburst continued into the second quarter as they outscored CLU 8-1, while Doherty picked up her second hat trick of the day with 2:48 remaining in the first half and Abarta doing so with 30 seconds remaining.
IU managed to score five goals in the final 2:48 of the first half against Cal Lutheran.
Abarta scored the last goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give her a team-high four goals for the game.

NOTABLES

With two wins on Saturday, the Hoosiers improve their record to 8-5 on the season.
IU now leads the all-time series with Cal Lutheran, 3-0, and the matchup with Fresno Pacific was the first in school history.
The five-game win streak is the most for Indiana since the 2018 season.
Freshman Robyn Greenslade scored a career-high three goals against Cal Lutheran.
Doherty has now scored at least three goals in nine games this season and leads the team with 35 total goals.
Abarta's five steals on Friday now gives her 13 on the year, which leads the team.
Sophomore goalie Mary Askew recorded 13 total saves on Friday, while only giving up four goals. She only played a total of 33:38 between the two games.
