Win Streak Improves To Five For IU

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– Indiana Water Polo opened up the Cal Lutheran Invite on Friday with two wins against Fresno Pacific, 17-3, and Cal Lutheran, 21-7. The wins give the Hoosiers a five-game winning streak heading into Saturday's conclusion.
Leading the Hoosiers throughout the day were sophomore Tina Doherty with six total goals and four steals and senior Megan Abarta with six total goals and five steals.

- Sophomore Izzy Mandema led the Hoosiers off with the first two goals as IU jumped out to an 8-0 lead, while holding Fresno Pacific scoreless in the first quarter.
- Mandema picked up her third goal of the game with 6:29 remaining in the second quarter to give Indiana an 8-0 lead.
- Doherty picked up her first two goals of the game less than a minute apart between the 5:25 and 4:42 marks of the third quarter to give the Hoosiers a 14-2 lead. Doherty picked up a hat trick with 5:23 remaining in the game.
- After trading goals with Cal Lutheran to start the game, IU went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-1 lead heading into the second quarter. Doherty and Abarta scored four of those goals.
- The Hoosiers' outburst continued into the second quarter as they outscored CLU 8-1, while Doherty picked up her second hat trick of the day with 2:48 remaining in the first half and Abarta doing so with 30 seconds remaining.
- IU managed to score five goals in the final 2:48 of the first half against Cal Lutheran.
- Abarta scored the last goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give her a team-high four goals for the game.
