Hoosiers Win Big Ten Home Opener over Penn State, 4-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis won their Big Ten home opener on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over Penn State at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers improved to 9-5 overall for the season and 1-1 in Big Ten matches.
The doubles point was tightly contested between the Hoosiers and Nittany Lions. Indiana struck first with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles by Caitlin Bernard and Alexandra Staiculescu.
The remaining two doubles matches went to tiebreakers and Michelle McKamey and Lexi Kubas prevailed for Indiana with a 7-6 (7-2) win as they improved to 10-1 on the season in doubles.
Caitlin Bernard won her tenth singles match of the year with a 6-1, 6-4 victory to put the Hoosiers up 2-1 in the match.
Alexandra Staiculescu won her team-leading 13th singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 win to put Indiana up 3-1.
Jelly Bozovic clinched the match for Indiana with a 7-5, 6-4 win.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Notre Dame on Friday March 6 and host DePaul and Miami (Ohio) on Sunday March 8.
