
IU Softball Headed to Madeira Beach for The Spring Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Softball (10-9) is set for their final non-conference road trip of the season this weekend as they travel to Madeira Beach, Fla. for the Spring Games. IU will play five games against five different opponents over three days. The ballgames will be against Creighton, Toledo, Central Michigan, South Dakota State and Butler. Indiana's previous Spring Games schedule has been altered.
All of THE Spring Games will be streamed live and can be viewed via a subscription to FloSoftball.com. Live stats and a radio broadcast for all games will be available on IUHoosiers.com with Sam Neidermann on the call.
CHECKING OUT THE COMPETITION
Creighton: The Creighton Bluejays enter this weekend 11-10 having just playing their first stretch of Spring Games in Longwood Fla. going 3-2. As a team they hitting .300 led by Ashley Cantu who is batting .429 with 27 hits and eight RBI's. In the circle they have relied on Kiele Miller (2.51 ERA, 4-6, 85 K's, 67.0 IP) and Mikay Santa Cruz (2.66 ERA, 6-3, 33 K's, 50.0 IP).
Toledo: The Toledo Rockets are currently in the middle of their Spring Games trip and are 9-10 as of March 11. Batting .275 at the moment, redshirt junior Dayna Denner leads the team in average hitting .389 with 21 hits and 16 RBI's. In the circle, Toledo's ace pitcher is junior Erin Hunt (2.05 ERA, 11-9, 80 K's, 65.0 IP, 8 CG).
Central Michigan: The Chippewas of Central Michigan are also in the midst of their Spring Games trip. They are 4-12 as of March 11 and have gone 3-3 in Madeira Beach so far. Tala Dean leads the team in average batting .308. She leads the team in hits with 12 and has four RBI's. Kaitlyn Bean (6.28 ERA, 3-4, 25 K's, 38.2 IP) has done the most work for CMU in the circle.
South Dakota State: The South Dakota State Jack Rabbits have won six games ina row in Madeira Beach as of the morning of March 11. Overall they are 14-7 on the 2020 season so far. As a team they are batting .297 with Cylie Halvorson leading the charge hitting .431. She has 25 hits and 19 RBI's on the year. The ace in the circle for the Jack Rabbits is Grace Glanzer (2.25 ERA, 11-2, 67 K's, 80.0 IP, 10 CG).
Butler: The Butler Bulldogs are 15-8 entering their weekend slate in the Sprng Games. Lauren Fey leads the team in offensive production batting .425 with 31 hits and seven RBI's. In the circle they are led by Karli Ricketts (2.05 ERA, 4-3, 88 K's, 61.1 IP) and Alyssa Graves (2.95 ERA, 6-2, 72 K's, 54.2 IP).
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana competed in the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. this past weekend taking three out of five ballgames. The Hoosiers fell in their first game against SIUE before earning three straight wins. Two were over South Dakota and one was over Boise State. IU dropped their final game of the weekend to No. 4/5 Arizona.
Most recently Indiana played their home opener on Tuesday (March 10) at Andy Mohr Field against Miami (OH). The Hoosiers beat the Redhawks 1-0 in a walk-off.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Over their last 11 ballgames, IU Softball is 8-3. Following their 3-2 weekend in Arizona, and their home opening victory Indiana is above .500 at 10-9 going into this weekend.
• Known for their speed, Indiana continues to do dominate base paths sitting fifth nationally at the beginning of the week in stolen bases per game (2.44). Over their last six games, The Hoosiers have recorded 20 steals.
• Senior RHP Emily Goodin topped both her season high and career high in strikeouts in the win over Miami (OH), win registering 14 K's. With 100 strikeouts already tallied this season, Goodin has moved to seventh all-time in career strikeouts in IU Softball history with 399 so far. She also has now four complete game shutouts on the season.
• Senior Gabbi Jenkins continues to lead the Hoosiers in offensive production hitting .41, and in hits with 25. As of March 9, she continues to be nationally ranked in batting average (121), stolen bases per game (34) and SAC flies (50).
• A pair of Arizona natives, Annika Baez and Taylor Lambert had a nice homecoming in the Wildcat Invitational. Baez went 5-15 with two home runs and six RBI's over the weekend while also recording 46 put-outs. She now leads the Hoosiers in RBI's with 12 on the season. Lambert tallied four hits and three stolen bases in Tucson. She is batting .313 following the home opener.
UPCOMING IN 2020
Wrapping up the non-conference schedule, Indiana will see three midweek games including NCAA Regional participants in Louisville and Notre Dame. The Cardinals will come to town on March 24 at 5 p.m. before the Hoosiers clash with the Fighting Irish on March 31 beginning at 4 p.m. Both teams were top 50 in RPI, Louisville was No. 38 in while Notre Dame checked in No. 39. Rounding out the nonconference schedule, Indiana will take on Morehead State on April 22.
Indiana opens up Big Ten play against Penn State at home March 20-22. Other conference home weekends include NCAA participants Ohio State (Mar. 27-29) and Minnesota (Apr. 17-19), who advanced to the Women's College World Series, before concluding the 2020 regular season at home vs. Iowa (May 1-3). The Big Ten road slate commences on April 3-5 when the Hoosiers travel to College Park to take on Maryland. Other road games include Nebraska (Apr. 10-12) and Illinois (Apr. 24-26), who made NCAA Regionals last season, prior to the annual doubleheader vs. Purdue on April 29 in West Lafayette. This year's Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Illinois from May 7-9.
