NOTES: IU Takes on Penn State in Big Ten Tournament Second Round

OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 120th season of competition in men's basketball and is the #11 seed and will play #6 Penn State in the 2nd round of the Big Ten Tournament. The winner will play #3 Maryland at approximately 9 p.m., Friday night. The two teams split their series with the home team coming out on top. PSU won 64-49 on Jan. 29, while IU won 68-60 on Feb. 23. Thursday's game will be played with no fans in attendance in accordance with the Big Ten's policy.

THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his third season of guiding the Cream and Crimson and is 4-0 in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. He is 194-106 in eight-plus years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. He is 55-43 at IU. Pat Chambers is 148-150 in 9 seasons at PSU.
JACKSON-DAVIS EARNS ALL-BIG TEN HONORS
Freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis was named third team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media and also selected to the All-Freshman team by the league coaches on Monday. He now has 12 double-doubles. He had 11 points, a career-high 17 boards and 4 blocked shots Thursday against Nebraska. Davis, a native of Greenwood and a graduate of Center Grove High School, was a five-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week honoree. Jackson-Davis is averaging a team-best 13.5 points and 8.4 rebounds. He is just one of four freshman nationally (Vernon Carey, Jr. - Duke, Zeke Nnaji - Arizona and Isiah Stewart - Washington) to lead his team in scoring, rebounds, field goal percentage, free throws made and free throws attempted and blocked shots. In the Big Ten, Jackson-Davis is the top freshman scorer overall (13.5) and second in conference games (12.8). He also leads in overall and conference play in field goal percentage (56.6 and 52.2) and blocked shots (1.8 and 1.7), He is second overall and in league games in rebounding (8.24and 7.9). He is 7th in the B1G in rebounding, 2nd in field goal percentage and 7th in blocked shots.
FIVE SCORE IN DOUBLE-DIGITS AGAINST THE HUSKERS
Freshman Armaan Franklin had a team-high 13 points. He added a career-high 8 rebounds, 3 assists and drew 3 charges. In 2 games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse this season, he has averaged 15.0 points and made 7-10 from long distance. He had a career-high 17 points and hit a game-winning 3FG to beat Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic. Senior Devonte Green is averaging 10.8 ppg., and currently ranks 56th on the school's all-time scoring list (954 points). He had 12 points and 4 assists against Nebraska. Junior Aljami Durham is 2nd on the team with 80 assists and averages 9.8 points. He had 11 points and 4 assists against Nebraska. Sophomore Rob Phinisee had 9 points against Nebraska, leads the team with 93 assists and has had 14 assists with just 1 turnover in the last 2 games. Junior Justin Smith is averaging 10.4 points and leads the Hoosiers with 31 steals. He had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Grad transfer Joey Brunk had 8 points. For the 3rd time in 4 Big Ten Tournament games, senior De'Ron Davis did not miss a field goal. He was 3 for 3 against Nebraska. He made 7 for 7 against Iowa in 2017 and 3 for 3 last year against Ohio State.
ODDS AND TRENDS
IU has held its opponents to 28.8% shooting (32 of 111) from long distance in the last 6 games. The Hoosiers had a season-high 23 assists with just 10 turnovers Wednesday. IU also shot 53.0% from the floor, 40.9% from long distance and held Nebraska to 30.0% shooting, their best defensive effort ever in the Big Ten Tournament.
