IU Softball Travels to Tucson for Wildcat Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball (6-7) continues their 2020 non-conference slate this weekend when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to play in the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona. Indiana will play five ballgames in total during their trip to the Grand Canyon state. The Hoosiers will take on SIUE (10-3), South Dakota (11-10) twice, Boise State and the host No. 4/5 Arizona.
IU was off this past weekend. Prior to the bye week, Indiana went 3-1 over four games in the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational. The Hoosiers took a pair of games against Bucknell, dropped a one-run decision against NC State and beat Saint Joseph's over the course of the weekend.
All games of the Wildcat Invitational will be streamed live and can be viewed via a subscription to FloSoftball.com. Indiana's game against Arizona can be streamed for free on arizonawildcats.com/sblive. CHECKING OUT THE COMPETITION
SIUE: The SIUE Cougars enter this weekend with a record of 10-3. They went 2-2 in the Purple and Gold Challenge last weekend splitting with Lipscomb, winning against UMBC and losing to Indiana State. Sophomore Kloe Hilbrenner leads the roster in batting average at .438, also topping the stat sheet in stolen bases with 10. Red-shirt senior Zoe Schafer also leads their offense with 17 RBI's and four home runs. Senior Emily Ingles leads the Cougar pitching staff in work with 38.1 IP, 46 K's, a 2.56 ERA and a record of 5-1. SIUE is led by Head Coach Jessica Jones who was appointed in July 2019 after spending six seasons as a member of the Cougars' staff including four years as Associate Head Coach.
South Dakota: The Hoosiers will play the South Dakota Coyotes twice in Tucson. South Dakota is 11-10 following a 3-2 weekend in the New Mexico Lobo Classic. They picked up two versus Northern Colorado and one against La Salle while dropping two against New Mexico. Freshman Jordyn Pender has led offensive production for USD with a .439 average, 25 hits and 20 RBI's. Junior Lauren Eamiguel is just behind her in average (.414) while leading the roster in hits with 29 and RBI's with 21. South Dakota is in its fourth season under the guidance of Head Coach Robert Wagner. These will be the first two meetings in IU program history with USD.
Boise State: The Boise State Broncos are 12-8 coming to Arizona after a 3-2 showing in the Judi Garman Classic last weekend. The Broncos beat BYU, Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon while losing to Cal State Fullerton and No. 3 Texas. Boise State is hitting .319 as a team with four different players tied for the roster lead in RBI's with 13 each. Four different players also have over 20 hits so far this year with Bradie Filmore leading at 25. In the circle, senior Kelsey Broadus has 54.0 innings pitched, a 2.85 ERA, 57 strikeouts and a 7-3 record. Joining her on the pitching staff with double-digit innings are Micaela Leal (3.40 ERA, 3-2, 14 SO, 35.0 IP) and Hannah Bailey (5.90 ERA, 1-2, 18 SO, 29.2). Last season the Broncos posted a 36-16 record and made it to the NCAA Tournament. All-time, Indiana is 2-2 against Boise State having last played in 2018.
Arizona: The Arizona Wildcats will host this weekend's games ranked No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA Poll, and No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll. Arizona is 17-3 and have won six straight games including all five in the Easton Crimson Classic. The Wildcats took two against McNeese State, two against No. 8 Alabama an one from Texas-Arlington. They are batting .313 as a team led by Jessie Harper (.373, 22 hits, 18 runs, seven home runs, 13 walks) and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza (.371, 23 hits, 19 runs, five home runs, 13 walks). The Wildcats pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.85 with Mariah Lopez (1.22 ERA, 10-2, 63.0 IP, 83 SO) and Alyssa Denham (2.18 ERA, 7-1, 67.1 IP, 61 SO) leading the way. Last year Arizona posted a record of 48-14 advancing to the 2019 Women's College World Series. This will be the first meeting between Indiana and Arizona since 2014. All-time the Wildcats lead the series 2-6.
EMILY GOODIN WINS BIG TEN CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK
• Senior Emily Goodin was named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24. The award came on the heels of Indiana's 3-1 weekend in the NC State Fairfield Crabtree Invitational (Feb. 21-23).
• Emily Goodin was outstanding for Indiana pitching every inning of all four games of the Invitational. In the weekend opener against Bucknell, she tossed her second career no-hitter for the Hoosiers registering seven strikeouts in 5 innings. On day two she pitched two extra inning contests going 15.1 innings, earning a second victory against Bucknell and dropping a one-run 2-1 decision to NC State. In the loss, she registered a season high 11 strikeouts. Goodin closed the tournament on Sunday (Feb. 23) pitching another complete game shutout with nine strikeouts in the win over Saint Joseph's. In total, Goodin recorded three wins, pitched all 27.1 innings, registered 35 strikeouts, with an ERA of 0.77 and an opponent batting average of .111.
• Goodin's first no-hitter was during her freshman year on Feb. 24, 2017 against UAB. This was the 28th no-hitter in Indiana Softball history, which includes three perfect games. Goodin becomes the sixth IU pitcher to record multiple no-hitters joining Amy Unterbrink (9), Teresa Raine (3), Meghan Roark (3), Mariangee Bogado (2), and Tara Trainer (2).
• This marked the first Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award for the Evansville, Indiana native. This was Goodin's third weekly conference award, as she won Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice in 2017 on Feb. 27 and March 13.

• Known for their speed, Indiana continues to do damage on the base paths sitting 21st nationally in stolen bases per game. In the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational alone, the Hoosiers recorded 10 steals.
• With another Big Ten weekly award to her name, senior Emily Goodin (1.71 ERA, 6-5, 69.2 IP, 71 SO) continues to lead the Hoosiers in the circle. She enters this weekend 24th in the nation in shutouts with two, and 42nd in strikeouts (71).
• Senior Gabbi Jenkins is hitting the cover off of the ball for Indiana averaging a roster leading .450. She had eight hits earning six RBI's in IU's recent trip to Raleigh, including a 4-4 game against Bucknell (Feb. 21). She also leads Indiana in stolen bases with eight, and is 34th nationally in stolen bases per game (0.62).
• Grayson Radcliffe is second on the roster in batting average hitting .368. She hit three home runs in the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational including two against Bucknell (Feb. 22). This was her first multi-home run game for IU. Radcliffe leads the Hoosiers in home runs (4) and RBI's (10).
• Freshman catcher Desiree Dufek hit her third home run of the season in Friday's (Feb. 21) victory over Bucknell. Just is second on the roster in home runs with three.
