Cronin, Rooks Secure Spots for NCAA Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Liam Cronin avenged a first-round loss in bold fashion with a pin to finish in fifth-place at 125 lbs. and Graham Rooks finished in 10th at 149 lbs. as both clinched automatic qualifying spots for the upcoming NCAA Wrestling Championships.
The Hoosiers concluded the Big Ten Championships on Sunday at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
After being edged by No. 6 seed Michael DeAugustino for a spot in the third-place match, Cronin ended his tournament on a high note with a pin of No. 10 seed Alex Thomsen. Thomsen had beaten Cronin by decision, 17-12 in the first round of the championships on Saturday.
Graham Rooks advanced to the ninth-place match with a 5-2 decision over Mousa Jodeh. Although he lost the ninth-place match, with 10 allocations at 149 he clinched a spot at the NCAA Championship.
Cronin and Rooks will wrestle at the NCAA Championships, March 19-21 in Minneapolis, Minn. The championships will be contested at U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of the Minnesota Vikings.
