Rising senior Sachi Ananias is a native of Santiago, Chile. IUHoosiers.com caught up with Ananias to what she has been up to during this time.
Q: Where are you at right now?
I'm in Bloomington right now! I'm probably staying here till the end if the semester as I am not allowed to fly back to Chile yet.
Q: What is your major?
Information Systems, Operations Management and International Business.
Q: How are you interacting with your teammates?
We usually FaceTime a couple of times a week. We also keep in touch through text and social media. We also have Zoom meetings every Monday and Friday.
Q: How has the adjustment gone to online classes?
I've taken a couple of online classes before so the adjustment hasn't been bad at all. The most challenging part has definitely been online group projects but technology has been amazing making remote meetings so easy.
Q: What gives you encouragement and motivation during this time?
I think that staying positive as much as I can has been key. Obviously we've never through something like this before but just keeping in touch with all of my loved ones and showing support has been crucial. When it comes to field hockey, I have been around an amazing group of girls throughout this whole year and I have no doubt everyone is still working hard for each other. Accountability is something our team has never lacked and it is something that motivates me everyday to keep contributing to the program as much as I can.
Q: What shows are you catching up on?
Right now I am halfway through All American (Netflix show), which I highly recommend. I also just finished the new season of Money Heist which was amazing.
Q: What are you most looking forward to when you get back?
Being back with my teammates and getting back into our routine. I've realized how much I miss the routine as a student-athlete and the awesome culture we created as a team. I can't wait to get back and see everyone. We definitely set a lot of goals and objectives as a team throughout this past year and I can't wait to get back to work and keep growing the program.
Q: What advice do you give to your fellow Hoosiers during this time?
I think that staying in touch with your loved ones and especially the IU community make times like this easier. All Hoosiers come from different backgrounds but we are all part of the same family when we are at IU. Supporting each other and showing love as much as we can will show how powerful the bonds we create as Hoosiers are.
