
Three IUMS Alums Tagged MLS Best 22 Contenders Under 22

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana University men's soccer stars Jack Maher, Justin Rennicks and Mason Toye were among the names mentioned by senior writer Matthew Doyle of MLS.com as the best 22 players under the age of 22 in Major League Soccer.
Maher, the second overall selection by Nashville SC in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, began his rookie campaign on loan at Charlotte. Before departing for the MLS, Maher racked up numerous individual awards, including unanimous All-America, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Big Ten Freshman of the Year and first team All-Big Ten honors. He secured three goals and four assists, while patrolling a defensive unit that conceded just 29 goals in 46 career games played for the Hoosiers.
Rennicks, a two-year professional with the New England Revolution, played in 29 career matches at the collegiate level for Indiana. The electrifying talent connected on six goals during his sophomore campaign, including three match-winning tallies. Rennicks was named to the All-Big Ten second team and earned a spot on the 2018 College Cup All-Tournament Team before heading to the professional ranks.
Toye, a second-year player for Minnesota United FC, spent one season in Bloomington and compiled a team-best 22 points as a freshman. Toye tied for the top spot on the conference leaderboard with 10 goals, including a league-high five game winners. For his efforts during the season, he was named Top Drawer Soccer First-Team Freshman Best XI, College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, First-Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
