Caulfield Awarded Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana men's soccer goalkeeper Sean Caulfield has been named a Big Ten postgraduate scholarship recipient, the league announced Thursday. Two student-athletes from each of the 14 Big Ten institutions who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree program were each awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based primarily on academic achievements.
The East Lake, Fla., native graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Kelley School of Business as a finance major in May of 2018. He then spent the 2019 academic year clerking for law firms in Bloomington. Caulfield will return home to attend Stetson University College of Law in the fall of 2020. He plans to focus on trial advocacy.
During his playing career, Caulfield was given the 2019 Indiana University Athletics Scholastic Achievement Award, honored with the 2020 Indiana University Athletics Jake Gimble Award, named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2018 and was a 2018 Chi Alpha Sigma Inductee. In addition, he was selected Academic All-Big Ten four times in his five-years in Bloomington.
Outside of the classroom, Caulfield was heavily involved on campus with Emerging Leaders and as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He also participated in Read Across America, an initiative on reading, and volunteered with Community Kitchen, a program that works to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas through direct service, education and advocacy.
Each Big Ten institution developed its own on-campus selection process when awarding the scholarship. Students must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point-average, demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program.
The scholarship will be used to pay expenses of the student's postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching, as well as other expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, required course-related supplies and books. In order to retain the scholarship, the recipient must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program within three years from the fall semester after selection.
