IUXC Makes Its Return With Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Saturday

Bloomington, Ind. – Indiana Cross Country will kick off the cross country season by competing at Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Jan. 30. The women's 6k race is set for 12:30 p.m. while the men will race the 8k at 2 p.m.
The championships will be held in Shelbyville, Ind. at the Blue River Cross Country Course.
The women's field is stacked this season with six women's teams being ranked as they are set for the first race of the championships on Saturday. Michigan State in the top-10 at No. 9. Wisconsin and Minnesota check in at No. 11 and No. 12, respectively. Penn State is ranked No. 15 while the Hoosiers are one spot behind them at No. 16. Illinois rounds out the field by being ranked No. 17.
Three men's teams enter Saturday's race ranked in the USTFCCCA's coaches' poll. Wisconsin is ranked No. 12 Indiana at No. 19. Purdue check in at No. 22 to round out the Big Ten programs that are ranked.
Last season at this event, the Indiana men placed second with 70 points while the women's squad took eighth with 177 points. Ben Veatch placed fourth in time of 25:03.1 and Bailey Hertenstein notched second with a time of 20:13.2 to lead the Hoosiers. Hertenstein went on to place 31st at NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors at NCAA Championships.
