BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer led into the 81st minute before a Michigan header ruined the party on Jerry Yeagely Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium Friday (Oct. 1) night. The goal forced overtime, where the Wolverines stole the match just three minutes into the extra period.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana's first notable chance came in the sixth minute off the foot of Herbert Endeley, who had a good look on goal from a Ryan Wittenbrink pass, but his low shot was denied by the UM goalkeeper.
• The two teams went into halftime with nothing to separate them. Indiana had the better collection of chances, recording three shots on goal while allowing just two Michigan attempts, neither of which forced a save.
• Endeley looked bound to break the tie in the 68th minute as he strode through, only to be brought down by UM's Brennan Callow, who was called for the penalty. The Michigan keeper guessed correctly on Victor Bezerra's resulting attempt from the spot, but the junior hammered the shot past him to give Indiana the lead.
• Thirteen minutes later, Michigan rescued the match via Evan Rasmussen's diving header that tied the contest late at 1-1.
• Three minutes into overtime, a Michigan throw-in resulted in Derick Broche's game-winning header.
NOTABLES
• Victor Bezerra recorded his first goal of the season on a 68th minute penalty kick. Bezerra is the eighth different Hoosier to open his goal scoring account this season.
• Indiana fell to 2-2 in conference play, and has dropped multiple conference matches for the first time since the 2015 team that finished 4-3-1 in Big Ten play.
• The loss marks the 16th regular season setback for the Hoosiers since the start of the 2014 campaign. During the span, the Hoosiers have never lost back-to-back matches and hold an 11-0-4 record in contests immediately following a defeat.
• Indiana fell to 23-4-3 in its series history against Michigan.
