Indiana Leads Shortened First Day at Kampen

Play Suspended in Second Round Due to Weather, Darkness
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team (289; +1) came out of the gates quickly to lead the Purdue Fall Invitational after 18 holes of golf at the Kampen Golf Course on Monday afternoon.
The Hoosiers carry the team standings by two strokes over the Cincinnati Bearcats (291; +3) behind a dominant first round from sophomore Drew Salyers. The two-time Big Ten Golfer of the Week fired a 68 (-4) in the opening round to pace the field.
Play was suspended during the second round due to lightning in the area and darkness. The round was unable to be resumed and will be picked up in the morning.

• Salyers, the 78th-ranked collegiate golfer according to the latest GolfWeek rankings, turned in a tournament-best score of 68 (-4) in the opening round at the Kampen Golf Course. He carded a team-high six birdies, including a stretch of four birdies on five holes near the end of the round.
• The round is the fifth of the season under 70 for the Howard, Ohio, native. The Hoosiers have played at least one round in the 60s in eight of 10 rounds played this season.
• Junior Noah Gillard was a 1-over 73 over the first 18 holes. He knocked in birdie tries on No. 6 and No. 15.
• Sophomore Clay Merchent entered the clubhouse with a 2-over 74 after a trio of birdies in the first round.
• Senior Mitch Davis was one of two Hoosiers to convert an eagle opportunity (No. 10) during play on Monday. He also submitted a first-round scorecard of 74 (+2).
• Fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd, the second Hoosier with an eagle on the scorecard, finished the opening round with a 3-over 75. He added a pair of birdie finishes.
• Senior Harry Reynolds shot a 4-over 76 as an individual. His debut round consisted of two birdies. Freshman Ethan Chelf had an up-and-down round and finished at an 11-over 83. He managed to hole out four birdies, the second-highest total of any Hoosier in the morning round.
