Hoosiers Earn Team Title in West Lafayette

Davis, Salyers Secure Top-10 Finishes
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team outplayed the 12-team field to win the Purdue Fall Invitational after compiling a 54-hole score of 858 (289-288-281; -6) at the Kampen Golf Course.
Indiana turned in a masterful final round of 281 (-7) to surpass the Purdue Boilermakers, the host of the tournament, to win by one stroke.
The victory for the Hoosiers is the first team title at any stroke play tournament since taking home the crown at the NYX Hoosier Invitational on April 13, 2014.

• Senior Mitch Davis played a near flawless final 18 to jump 12 spots in the final individual rankings. Davis fired a 4-under 68 with five birdies to close out the tournament at 213 (74-71-68; -3). The Valparaiso native was the top Hoosier finisher as he tied for third.
• The result is his second top-5 finish of the season and fifth top-10 performance during his time with the Cream and Crimson.
• The Hoosiers have played at least one round in the 60s in nine of 12 rounds played this season.
• Sophomore Drew Salyers converted three-straight birdies in the final round to finish at 214 (68-73-73; -2). He finished t-ninth, his third top-10 result of the 2021 season and fifth of his career.
• Junior Noah Gillard used an eagle in the final round to propel him to a three-round score of 216 (73-70-73; E). He finished t-14th overall and third among IU players.
• Fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd turned in a bogey-free 68 (-4) in the final round that consisted of four birdies. His third-round 68 marked the best round of his collegiate career since carding a 66 in the second round of the 2019 Steelwood Collegiate. In total, Shepherd has played nine rounds in the 60s as a Hoosier. He finished t-22nd overall at 218 (75-75-68; +2).
• Sophomore Clay Merchent carded his best round of the tournament at an even-par 72. He holed out a trio of birdies to finish t-28th at 220 (74-74-72; +4).
• In the individual ranks, senior Harry Reynolds shot a 227 (76-77-74; +11) and earned a 51st-place result. Freshman Ethan Chelf played a scorecard of 238 (83-79-75; +22) to finish t-73rd.
