UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Defense made the difference as Indiana men's soccer (9-3-1, 4-2-0 B1G) gutted out a 1-0 win against Penn State (8-5-1, 4-1-0) Sunday at Jeffrey Field on the campus of Penn State University.
IU earned its fourth consecutive clean sheet and third straight Big Ten road win as a 75th minute own goal spelled doom for the Nittany Lions.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana had the first real chance of the match within six minutes. Maouloune Goumballe played the ball right to Endeley, who dribbled into the box and released a shot right at the PSU keeper.
• IU kept pressing Penn State and had a set of chances 19 minutes in. After carrying the ball down the right wing, Nyk Sessock played a cross into the box that deflected from Victor Bezerra into the feet of Maouloune Goumballe. Goumballe fired, but the keeper was there for the save. Spencer Glass had another chance off the resulting corner but couldn't put it away.
• Roman Celentano had his work cut out for him late in the half as the home side had numerous chances to open the scoring. Celentano was up to the challenge though, making four saves in the final 15 minutes that included a pair of marvelous diving stops.
• The Hoosiers put consistent pressure on PSU in the second half, and eventually the breakthrough came. In the 75th minute, Penn State defender Brandon Hackenberg misdirected a Sessock cross into his own net to put IU ahead.
NOTABLES
• Indiana has won six of its last seven matches, earning shutouts in five of those victories. The Hoosiers have earned seven clean sheets this season.

• The Hoosiers remain perfect in Big Ten road matches with a record of 3-0-0 in those contests.

• All five of Roman Celentano's saves came in the first half.
