Hoosiers Tumble Against (RV) Michigan On Wednesday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (8-13, 2-7 Big Ten) was back in action on Wednesday with a match against (RV) Michigan (12-6, 5-4 Big Ten). The Hoosiers dropped the midweek match 3-0 (22-25, 9-25, 25-21) to the Wolverines.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the opening points of the first frame, Kari Zumach saw the first two Indiana kills of the night.
• Indiana tied the set at 7 apiece with a block from Savannah Kjolhede and Breana Edwards. Edward tied it again at 12-12 with a kill.
• The Hoosiers were able to pull within one, forcing Michigan to call a timeout up 20-19. Edwards put up another kill, but Michigan took the opening set, 25-22.
• Zumach got the first point of the second set with a kill. Kaley Rammelsberg recorded her first kill of the night, but Indiana was still down 6-4. Needing to bounce back after letting Michigan go on a 4-0 run, Morgan Geddes slammed a kill.
• The Hoosiers tried to bounce back but the Wolverines rolled to a 25-9 victory in set two.
• Down by one, kills from Savannah Kjolhede and Brooke Westbeld put the Hoosiers up, 8-7. Morgan Geddes recorded two straight slams that helped Indiana regain its lead, 14-13, but the Wolverines found their stride to force a Hoosiers timeout.
• Out of the break and trailing, 21-16, Edwards found the floor for three straight kills to put Indiana within two and force Michigan to call a timeout.
• Despite finding their footing, the Wolverines were too strong and took the final set, 25-21.
NOTABLES
• For the X straight match, senior outside hitter Breana Edwards put up a team-leading 13 kills and hit .312. The senior also tallied one block.
• Graduate student setter Brooke Westbeld recorded 24 assists on Wednesday night.
• Junior defensive specialist Paula Cerame led the Hoosiers in digs with 13.
• Sophomore middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede saw two blocks which was a team high.
