Indiana Volleyball Set For Sunday Match Against Rutgers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (8-13, 2-7 Big Ten) continues its four-game home stand on Sunday, October 24 when they play host to Rutgers (8-12, 0-9 Big Ten). The two teams previously met on October 8 where the Hoosiers toppled the Scarlet Knights, 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23).

The Opening Serve
• The Hoosiers last competed on Wednesday, October 20 as they played Michigan at home. The Wolverines took the match, 3-0 (22-25, 9-25, 21-25).

• The Hoosiers sit at No. 10 in the conference in blocking, averaging 2.29 per set. They have tallied a total of 204 so far this season.

• Indiana has a strong hold on the all-time series with the Scarlet Knights, 14-1. The only loss to Rutgers came in 2019 where the Hoosiers dropped the road match, 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 19-25, 20-25).

• RUTGERS: Caitlin Schweihofer, who is in her second season, sits at the helm of the Scarlet Knights program. Rutgers has compiled a record of 8-12 overall and is 0-9 in the conference. They have dropped their last two matches in straight sets but were able to take a set off Penn State prior to the straight set losing skid. Fifth year senior right side hitter Beka Kojadinovic leads the Scarlet Knights attack, tallying 193 kills and garnering a hitting percentage of .194. She is also solid on the block with 39 total blocks, which is the third highest among the roster. Senior Inna Balyko does to most of their setting in which she has recorded 557 assists. On defense, redshirt senior middle blocker Shea McNamara has put 83 blocks which is a squad high. McNamara's 83 is No. 10 in the Big Ten. Among the conference, Rutgers is No. 9 in aces, securing 91 so far in 2021. The Scarlet Knights are allowing their opponents to hit .228 while they are hitting .190 as a team.

Despite hanging around with the Wolverines they fell, to Michigan, 3-0 (22-25, 9-25, 21-25). For the third straight match, Breana Edwards led the Hoosiers attack with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .312. Savannah Kjolhede led the Indiana defense with two blocks, including one solo block. Paula Cerame put up two aces for a season high.

• Graduate student setter Brooke Westbeld returned to her starting role with the Hoosiers at Minnesota and continues leads the team in assists with a total of 432 in 2021. Westbeld has seen double-figure assists in her last two matches.
• Sophomore middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede leads the way on defense, putting up 66 blocks on the season so far.
• As the Hoosiers starting libero, junior Paula Cerame has put up 316 digs to lead Indiana. In eight-straight matches, Cerame has seen double-digit digs.
• In the match at Minnesota on October 17, sophomore outside hitter Morgan Geddes tallied a career-high 10 kills.
