BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – While earning its seventh straight shutout, Indiana men's soccer (12-3-1, 5-2-0 B1G) got its attack going as well in a 4-0 win against VCU (9-6-1, 4-3-0 A10) Wednesday (Oct. 27) night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
A Samuel Sarver brace and goals by Victor Bezerra and Ryan Wittenbrink highlighted a dominant midweek win on Senior Night and in the final regular season match at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
KEY MOMENTS
• Within just three minutes the Hoosiers were on the board. Sarver passed between two defenders across the top of the 18-yard box, and Bezerra stepped in front of the center back taking a heavy first touch into the box. With his next touch, he lifted the ball just over the outstretched foot of the VCU keeper into the far side netting.
• Eight minutes later, Spencer Glass played a cross from the left wing that found Sarver streaking into the final six. His first touch deflected off the keeper but fell back to the freshman right in front of goal.
• Sarver showed great skill earning his second goal of the match in the 52nd minute. From a Herbert Endeley cross, Sarver had to leap and contort his body horizontally to meet the ball in the air. His half-bicycle finish hopped off the turf and past the diving keeper to give IU a 3-0 advantage.
• Five minutes passed, and Endeley earned his second assist of the evening on Indiana's final score. Cutting through defenders down the right wing, he played to Wittenbrink at the top of the box. Wittenbrink took a couple of touches and bended his shot around a defender, placing his third goal of the season into the top corner.
