IUVB Get The Road Win At Rutgers, 3-1

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Indiana Volleyball (8-9, 2-3 Big Ten) snapped its losing streak on Friday night with a convincing 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23) victory over Rutgers (8-8, 0-5 Big Ten) on the road. Breana Edwards led the attack with 19 kills and Savannah Kjolhede put up a team-leading six blocks.
KEY MOMENTS
• Edwards opened the first set of the night with a solo block followed by a slam from Kjolhede. Giving Indiana the 4-1 lead was Kjolhede with her second kill of the night. The Hoosiers forced the Scarlet Knights to take a timeout after an ace put Indiana up, 9-3.
• Despite the six-point lead, Rutgers scored four-straight points to cut it to 9-7. Tied at 12-12, a pair of errors by the Scarlet Knights gave the Hoosiers what it needed to spark the offense.
• Mady Saris put down a kill and Haley Armstrong served up an ace to give Indiana the 16-15 lead.
• Back-to-back kills by Kaley Rammelsberg and Edwards led to the Hoosiers taking the opening set, 25-18.
• Kjolhede picked up where she left off to begin the second set with a kill. Kari Zumach followed it up with a slam of her own to go up 2-1.
• Four kills by the Hoosiers forced a timeout by Rutgers as Indiana was out to a two-point lead, 16-14.
• The Hoosiers let the Scarlet Knights jump back in the set and eventually fell in the second frame, 25-23.
• Camryn Haworth started the third set with three-straight aces which was followed by three-straight Rutgers errors to give Indiana the 6-0 advantage.
• Edwards saw back-to-back strikes as Indiana jumped out 12-7 lead. Kjolhede put the Hoosiers up 17-9 to keep the momentum alive late in the third set.
• Kills by Rammelsberg and Haworth added to the Indiana lead and the Hoosiers rolled to a 25-14 set three victory.
• Zumach got the first kill for the Hoosiers in the fourth set as they led, 3-2. Leading by five, Indiana let the Scarlet Knights back in it to flip the momentum to Rutgers.
• Despite being down 16-11, Indiana fought back to tie the frame at 18-18. The Hoosiers took a 21-20 advantage from an Edwards kill that forced Rutgers to take a break.
• Needing just a point to get the win, Zumach threw up a game-winning solo block. Indiana won the fourth set, 25-23.
NOTABLES
• With the 3-1 victory on Friday night, Indiana improved to 14-1 in the all-time series against Rutgers.
• Senior outside hitter Breana Edwards led the Indiana attack with a season-high 19 kills. The Rainer, Ore. native also tallied four blocks.
• Sophomore middle blocker recorded a team-leading six blocks while also tallying seven kills.
• Freshman setter Camryn Haworth picked up 34 assists against the Scarlet Knights.
• Indiana put up 15 blocks compared to Rutgers eight.
• The Hoosiers won the digs battle, 62-60.
