UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Indiana men's soccer (14-5-1, 5-3-0 B1G) couldn't capture its fourth straight Big Ten Tournament title as it fell to Penn State (13-6-1, 6-2-0 B1G), 3-0, Sunday (Nov. 14) afternoon on Jeffrey Field.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana had a pair of chances in the 11th and 12th minutes. First, Samuel Sarver ran into space in the box for a wide-open opportunity, but the freshman was just offside. Then, after dispossessing PSU in midfield, Sarver charged the PSU defense with pace and passed to the top of the box to Mihalic, who fired just wide of the far post.
• After a breakaway chance, Patrick McDonald got in front of a clearance and collected inside the box. He found Endeley racing in, but his shot was right at Nittany Lion goalkeeper Kris Shakes.
• Penn State opened the scoring in the 36th minute through Seth Kuhn. Bloyou dribbled with bodies around him inside the box and passed to the perimeter to Kuhn for a first-time effort. The shot took a deflection, causing Celentano to hesitate which allowed it to get through him at the near post.
• Celentano made a resolute save two minutes later on a breakaway attempt by Peter Mangione, knocking the shot up and over the crossbar with his legs.
• Penn State made it two nine minutes into the second half as Tyger Evans dribbled past his mark and was able to bend a close-range shot around Celentano.
• Maouloune Goumballe had a chance to cut into the deficit, dribbling into space in the box. His shot was from a tight angle, however, and Shakes was there to contain it.
• In the 85th minute, a header from a cross fell within the 18 to Penn State's Pierre Reedy, who struck a first-time volley with his left foot into the back of the net.
NOTABLES
• Indiana goalkeeper Roman Celentano and defender Spencer Glass were named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. It's the second such honor for both student-athletes, and second straight for Celentano.
• IU appeared in its fifth straight Big Ten Tournament final but fell to 3-2 in such contests including ties broken by penalty kicks.
• Sunday's result snapped a seven-match undefeated streak against the Nittany Lions going back to 2016. IU still holds the all-time series advantage, 35-15-5.
