WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (10-21, 4-15 Big Ten) returned to the court on Friday night at No. 6 Purdue (23-5, 15-4 Big Ten) where they were able to pick up a set but ultimately fell, 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 14-25, 20-25).
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers let Purdue take a 4-0 run to begin the first set. Indiana got their offense started with a kill and ace by Savannah Kjolhede. Mady Saris and Morgan Geddes recorded kills before a block by Kaley Rammelsberg and Saris tied the set at 7-7.
• Camryn Haworth and Saris slammed two combined kills, but the Hoosiers needed a timeout down, 14-9.
• Out of the break Kari Zumach tallied a kill but the Boilermaker attack was too much, and Indiana dropped the first set, 25-13
• Rammelsberg came out blazing to open the second set as she recorded the first three kills for the Hoosiers and got them out to a 5-3 lead. A kill by Saris and an ace from Brooke Westbeld kept the Hoosiers rolling.
• A block from Kjolhede and Zumach gave Indiana their largest lead of 9-4. Breana Edwards and Zumach saw back-to-back slams before Rammelsberg and Edwards put down a pair as the Hoosiers had a 16-11 advantage.
• Kjolhede grabbed a pair of kills as the Boilermakers were forced to call a timeout. Out of the break, Indiana kept up their momentum and took the second game, 25-21.
• Down early in the third set, Edwards got the Hoosiers going with two straight kill that was followed by a slam from Rammelsberg. Geddes saw a quick swipe to fall, but Purdue scored a quick two points to force Indiana to call a timeout.
• It was the Boilermakers for the rest of the set, but the Hoosiers tried to mount the comeback with a 4-0 run that comprised of kills from Geddes and Edwards, a solo block from Edwards, and a Haworth ace. IU went on to fall in the third set, 25-14
• Saris came alive to start the fourth set with a pair of kills and a solo block to give the Hoosiers an early 6-5 lead.
• After letting Purdue take a slight lead Rammelsberg found the floor to tie the frame at 10-10. Not going down easily, Geddes and Kjolhede saw back-to-back kills to even the set at 14-14. A kill from Saris gave the Hoosiers the lead.
• After going back and forth, a pair of kills from Edwards gave Indiana the 18-17 lead. The lead wouldn't last long as the Boilermakers took a 20-18 lead and forced an Indiana timeout.
• Out of the timeout, Indiana couldn't find their footing and lost the fourth set, 25-20.
NOTABLES
• Junior middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg led the Indiana attack with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .444. Rammelsberg also had two blocks.
• Senior Breana Edwards led the team in kills with 12. She also had a solo block.
• Freshman outside hitter Mady Saris was in double-figure kills with 10. She led the way on defense with three blocks.
• Junior defensive specialist Paula Cerame had a team-high 24 digs.
• Graduate student Brooke Westbeld had a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs.
• The Hoosiers won the ace battle, 3-2.
