Indiana Completes Sunday Sweep of SIUE, Bellarmine to Open Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Behind clean sweeps of nine of the 10 weight classes, the Indiana Wrestling team kicked off its 2021-2022 season with a pair of commanding 40-3 wins over SIUE and Bellarmine.
With the victory, IU goes to 2-0 on the season in the early stages of the non-conference schedule.
KEY MOMENTS (SIUE)
• Sophomore Jacob Moran (125) got things off to a quick start with a dominant 18-2, tech fall victory to give IU a 5-0 lead.
• Graduate student Brock Hudkins (133) recorded IU's first fall of the afternoon in his victory over Matt Malavsky. He pinned SIUE's 133-pounder just 1:19 into the first period.
• Redshirt junior Graham Rooks (149) added a tech fall of his own in the fourth match of the bout to put IU up 19-0.
• Redshirt sophomore D.J. Washington (184) and Nick Willham 197) grabbed back-to-back falls.
• Junior Jacob Bullock (285) went back-and-forth for three periods before grabbing a last-minute reversal and the riding time point to finish off a dominant 40-3 win for IU
KEY MOMENTS (Bellarmine)
• Once again, it was Moran that set the pace for the match; grabbing a 17-2 tech fall victory to give IU five points off the bat.
• Three-straight major decisions from Hudkins and the Rooks brothers put IU in complete control after four matches.
• Washington grabbed his second pin of the afternoon with a fall just 1:03 into the first period.
NOTABLES
• IU won 17 of 19 matches and was awarded an injury forfeit in the 20th.
• The Hoosiers had clean sweeps in every weight class except 165.
• Junior Kasper McIntosh grabbed his first two career wins at IU.
• Washington pinned both of his opponents.
